We also offer no cost preschool for those who qualify for certain placements on Individualized Education Plans and eligible Title 1 students. Depending on the school year, we may also have a grant for those who are eligible to attend our inclusion classrooms at no cost. Please visit our homepage for details about the grant program, or contact preschool@alpinedistrict.org with any further questions.
Our Tuition Inclusion and Title 1 classrooms serve students who are 3 or 4 years old at the start of that school year (as of September 1st).
We serve students who qualify for Special Education services as soon as they have an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This can be as early as 3 years old, at any time during the school year.
We do not offer preschool classes or summer programs during the summer. We do have an Extended School Year service offered in the summer for those students who currently have an active Individualized Education Plan and meet the eligibility criteria to attend. Please talk to your child's teacher if you have questions regarding this service.
Transportation is available in certain circumstances and only available in certain areas. Transportation is not available to tuition inclusion students. Contact your child's teacher if you have questions regarding transportation.
Title 1 preschool classes can have up to 20 students in class at one time. This includes both 3-year-old and 4-year old-students.
Tuition Inclusion classes may have 20 students (this number may vary slightly depending on need). This includes both 3-year-old and 4-year-old students.
Our Special Class preschool classes have less than 20 students at a time.
Our tuition inclusion and special class preschools typically have one lead teacher and two paraeducators in class at all times. This makes our adult-to-student ratio about 1:7. Title 1 adult-to-student ratios never exceed 1:10.
We do not currently offer dual immersion for preschool.

Curriculum and Assessments
We follow World of Wonders in our tuition inclusion and Title 1 classrooms and Handwriting Without Tears in our Special Class classrooms. Both align with the newly revised Utah State Core Standards for Early Learning.
Our Autism classrooms use Handwriting Without Tears and the STAR curriculum
Our Core Standards can be found here: Utah State Core Standards for Early Learning
We currently use a few different assessment tools in our preschool classrooms.
Developmental Observation Tool (DOT): This is a comprehensive, non standardized assessment administered in class that tests many skills and areas of development from ages birth to 5. This assessment is administered to all preschool students enrolled in each of our preschool classes. Parents will receive a copy of this report each trimester.
PEEP (Preschool Entry and Exit Profile): This is a non comprehensive, standardized assessment that tests entry and exit preschool skills. This assessment only tests essential preschool skills in literacy and math and will only be administered by appointment (not in class) to Inclusion Tuition students who will be attending kindergarten the following year.
2KLAN: This a non comprehensive, standardized assessment that only tests essential literacy and math preschool skills and will only be administered by appointment (not in class) to Title 1 students. This assessment determines eligibility for Title 1 preschool students only.
Deep learning is when a teacher promotes learning the qualities children need to be successful by building complex understanding and meaning rather than just focusing on superficial knowledge . In Alpine School District, we take these kind of experiences and incorporate the 6 C's: Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Character and Collaboration. You will see this in classrooms through fun, hands on, multi-sensory, and meaningful experiences.
Inclusion Preschool
We teach all children (ages 3-5) together, regardless of ability level. We celebrate children’s similarities as well as their different abilities and cultures.

All students must be three or four years old on or before September 1st of the school year they will attend, and MUST live within the boundaries of the participating Title 1 school.

Special Class and Autism Preschool
For students who qualify for certain placements on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), preschool and provided related services are at no cost to families.
No. Your child's IEP team, including you, will meet at least once during the school year to discuss and determine placement (what type of classroom - General Education, Special Class etc.) is best suited for your child's needs based on data gathered.
In certain classrooms, we may take "model" (typically developing) peers in our Special Class preschools. Please contact preschool@alpinedistrict.org for more information.
We do not take model peers in our Special Class Autism classrooms at this time.
No, we do not offer ABA therapy services through Alpine School District at this time. However, our Autism classrooms practice other programs such as Discreet Trial Training, Pivotal Response Training and the STAR curriculum.
