Sound Design is an exploratory class that provides students with a way to explore music by creating sound electronically. Using a program called Sound Trap, we are able to explore loops, record our voices, and mix and balance multiple tracks. By the end of the trimester, we started diving into using video with the WeVideo software where we found video clips of our choice, added in sound, narration, and background music to enhance the video, much like foley artists.

Storm

As an introduction to using Soundtrap and adding tracks, we made our own storms. The class could pick any kind of storm as long as it has a beginning, middle, and end. There must be at least 4 different tracks (more encouraged). The tracks should not be all played at the same time.

Storytelling with Sound Effects

As a class, we used our own past (or imagination for some) to create with a dramatized story that was rich with imagery and a need for sound. They recorded their voices narrating the story and enhanced the story with sound effects found online or by creating their own.

Nature Documentary Segment

Using WeVideo, we made our own video clips where the class was tasked with finding a video, researching the animal of the choice, recording narration, and finding and adding background music that fits the mood of the segment.

Historical and Archival Sound Effects

As our final project in Sound Design 3, the class got to choose at least two video clips from the historical or archival section on WeVideo and add in their own sound effects we well as finding background music that fits the mood of their video clips.
