OUR COMMITMENT TO WILSON COMMUNITY: As committed educators of Wilson Community Schools, we strive to guide and inspire students to become successful, innovative, productive citizens by providing the skills and tools necessary within a positive and supportive environment. Through these efforts, we will guide student to reach their maximum potential in all adventures of life.
SNAPSHOTS OF THE WEEK!! : We had a very busy first week of school at Wilson! Students reviewed expectations in key areas of the school, helped create classroom rules, earned rewards from the PAWS bin for positive behavior, and kicked off our recycling program. And that’s just a glimpse of all we accomplished! It was a packed four days, and by the end of the week, we were all ready for a well-deserved rest.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FREE AND REDUCED LUNCHES
APS families, Free and Reduced meal paperwork must be completed soon for students to avoid losing this benefit. Proper nutrition is vital for academic and behavioral success at school. Families that received a letter stating they get free and reduced lunch do not need to act, otherwise families at Hinks, Sanborn, Lincoln and ACES should complete a household information report. Families at Alpena High, Thunder Bay, Ella White, Wilson and Besser should complete the free and reduced lunch application. Documents will be emailed to you or can be completed at alpenaschools.com at the food services information tab. If you have questions, contact APS Food Services Director Rachel James at 989 358 5021.

Dear Families,
I appreciate your support in helping students transition smoothly into the school year. We appreciate you walking your children to their classrooms during these first week of school.
Starting this week, we are encouraging all students to walk into their classrooms independently. Many have already mastered going through the breakfast line and navigating back to class on their own — a big step toward independence!
This change is part of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and efficiency of morning routines for all classes.
We also ask for your help during afternoon pick-up: please practice with your child getting in and out of the vehicle independently. To keep the car line flowing smoothly, we ask that you remain in your car. If you need to exit your vehicle, please park in a designated parking space.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students grow in confidence and independence!
Warm regards,
Jenny Marceau
Here are the PAC meeting dates for the 2025-2026 school year. Wilson parents are welcome to attend the meetings on Thursdays starting at 5:30 PM. We have many exciting events planned and some that still need to be planned, and we would love your support. Thank You!
PAWS Behavior Expectations at Wilson Community School
PAWS is our school's acronym for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). This multi-tiered framework helps us create an effective and positive learning environment by establishing a social culture and providing the behavioral support needed to improve social, emotional, and academic outcomes for all students.
During the first few days of school, students at Wilson will learn the PAWS expectations for their classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeteria, bathrooms, and buses. We ask that you talk with your child about what they are learning and discuss the importance of these behaviors.
Students can earn PAWS tickets daily for following expectations. These tickets are entered into a weekly drawing, where one or two students from each class win a prize from our PAWS Cabinet.
Bi-weekly, teachers and staff also select a PAWS Pupil—a student who consistently exemplifies these positive behaviors. PAWS Pupils receive a certificate, a prize from the PAWS Cabinet, and the opportunity to invite a family member to have lunch with them the following Thursday.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Support
Each month we will focus on an area from the matrix to revisit and remind students of behavior expectations. Please support at home by going over rules with your child.
The focus area for August/September will be the classroom. Please discuss the expectations of the classroom with your child.

Please make sure to verify your student's absences. It is considered unexcused without a phone call, email or note. Please call 358-5700, email the office at lbowe@alpenaschools.com, or log onto your Parentvue account to excuse them.
Students must be prepared each day for the Northern Michigan weather. Each day students go outside for a 25-minute recess. Families are encouraged to monitor their children’s clothing selections to ensure they are appropriately dressed for the weather.
If you have a change in plans that you need to notify your child of regarding end-of-the-day bus/pick-up, please call the office before 3:30 p.m. This allows us time to relay messages and prepare a smooth transition to the end-of-the-day procedures.
Parents, please call the office for any changes in your child's bussing situation. You may not write notes for the bus drivers to follow. For bus drivers to make a change they have to receive a note from the office staff so they know that this has been approved by parents or guardians.
***To check your student's bus route information
Go to ParentVue using the app or website, and select student info. Then scroll to the bottom and click additional information for their bus routing schedule provided by day as well as AM and PM. If it is incorrect or needs to be changed then there is an automated transportation request on the first page at the bottom of ParentVue.
Please do not drop off students earlier than 8:44 AM
If your child is getting dropped off late or being picked up early we ask that you please come into the office to sign them in or out to make sure that information is accurately being put into Synergy accounts.
If you are dropping off or picking up your child from the pick-up line please refrain from exiting your vehicle. If it is necessary for you to get out of the vehicle please pull into a parking space so we continue the flow of traffic and keep everyone safe.
We will be holding popcorn sales throughout the year to help support classroom and school-wide incentives. Popcorn is $1.00 a bag, with a limit of two bags per student. If you would like to sponsor your child's classroom, please contact their teacher to find out the number of students in the class.

Students will have the chance to bring money from home to buy items at our school store. Prices range from $0.25 to $3.00, and we have a variety of fun school supplies, including fancy pencils, erasers, stickers, squishies, and keychains.
There is no obligation to buy anything. This is just a fun way for students to get some cool items. All money raised goes directly back into the school store to purchase new supplies.
Michigan State law requires a school to schedule five fire drills, two tornado drills, and three school safety/security drills (e.g., lockdown, shelter in place, etc.). These drills will occur throughout the school year. We will be having drills starting this week. Please discuss with your child the importance of following all safety procedures and protocols as we participate in these very important drills. We practiced a fire drill and tornado drill this week at Wilson.
If you know anyone interested in subbing at Wilson for any position please reach out. We would love to have you! The good news is you do not need to sub every day it can be very flexible and we will work with your schedule. Please reach out if you are interested or know someone that is interested.
Here is the link to our Wilson Wildcat Gear!! This will be open all year, so feel free to order whenever you'd like. You don't need to order anything; this is only if you are interested in some gear! We wear it throughout the year. A portion of the proceeds is donated to Wilson PAC to help support events throughout the school year. The new Wilson Wildcat Logo has been added as an option if you are interested in upgrading to the new logo. The color shirts are grade-level shirts that we wear throughout the year at assemblies and special dress-up weeks. Purple-kindergarten, blue-1st grade, green-2nd grade, yellow-3rd grade, orange-4th, red-5th
Picture Day is on Tuesday, October 7th. More information will be sent home as the date gets closer.
