We serve vulnerable citizens and their families with services and support to address cultural, spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. We create partnerships among the service providers and community resources, creating a healthier adult and a healthier community.
We are tribal members who have experienced recovery and healing firsthand. We know firsthand the importance of providing support and resources to individuals as they transition from incarceration to the community.
We support individuals with substance use, 18+ years, High Risk/High Need, Low Risk/High Need, Low Risk/Low Need, and Fully Adjudicated People.
In 2024, the Northern Cheyenne Tribe (NCT) applied for a grant from the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), to implement the Northern Cheyenne Restorative Justice Program (NC RJP) within the Tribal Courts. On September 26, 2024, this five-year grant (9/30/2024 to 9/30/29) in the amount of $899,802 was awarded (Award #15-PBJA-24_GG_03153-TRIB). The grant is designed to address three gaps in services for incarcerated individuals: 1) no restorative justice program at NCT, 2) lack of formal partnerships with service providers, and 3) a high number of incarcerated tribal members.
The restorative justice approach is much needed because, in a typical court case, there is often not enough time to help defendants receive treatment and/or access other necessary services. The NC RJP will address gaps by implementing a restorative justice approach in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies, while elevating culturally appropriate restorative justice practices.
