BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Location: Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, the Philippines
Cost: Free! We provide three meals a day on each working day and accommodation for the duration of your stay. We don't provide food on your day off. Volunteers are responsible for all other expenses, including travel.
Work Days: 5.5 days a week (Monday - Saturday lunchtime)
Arrival Days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays
Accommodation: You can expect communal-style living with bunk beds and dormitory rooms. You will need to provide your own bedding (air mattress, sleeping bag/blanket, pillow, etc.)
Additionally, we will have some spaces for tents, if you wish to bring one.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during work days. Vegetarian diets can be accommodated upon request, but any other dietary preferences (vegan, gluten-free, etc.) might need to be self-supplemented.
WiFi: We have access to WiFi on the base but the connection isn't strong and available across the whole base. The phone reception in the area is unreliable, though, we still recommend volunteers get a local SIM card to stay connected outside of the base.
Weather: The typhoon season in the Philippines usually lasts between October and February. If you are arriving at that time, be prepared for a lot of rain, mud, and humidity! It's recommended to bring a raincoat and waterproof boots (with steel toes) for the site.
Access: Approximately 3 hours bus ride from Tacloban (only domestic airport in Leyte).
