The Australian Government is a complex system that involves many different branches of government to form the federated democracy we have today. There are 6 states and territories that came together in 1901; Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and The Australian Capital Territory (ACT). This is know as the Commonwealth. In 1901, the year federation occurred, the Australian Constitution was written . There are three levels of parliament in Australia Federal, State and Local.
The top level of government in Australia is the federal government. This is the government that controls all of Australia. We are a constitutional monarchy. This means that the ultimate leader (Head of State) of Australia was the late Queen Elizabeth II and is now King Charles III. Although he is the highest in charge there are laws within the constitution that limit the monarch's power so that Australia remains a fair democracy. The monarch lives in England so a Governor General represents them. The second part of the Australian Government is this actual parliament system. Parliament house (In Canberra, ACT) is where all the national laws are made and every four years the federal election is held so that Australian citizens can vote for representatives to vote on laws.
The State and Local governments are a simplified version of the Federal Parliament. Local and state elections are held to select representatives to vote on smaller often more personal matters.

So how does the Australian Voting System Actually work?
The Australian Government is a democracy and that means giving everyone (that is an Australian Citizen and over 18) the right to vote. Many other countries such as USA and the UK do this but in Australia you have to vote.
