Instruction in special topics will be provided to Allen ISD students during the 2024 - 2025 school year. These special topics will include human sexuality instruction, child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking as required through the Texas Education Code (TEC) 28.004 and aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education.
The curriculum materials used in Allen ISD on the special topics were recommended by Allen ISD’s School Health Advisory Council and approved by the Board of Trustees. These curriculum materials are aligned with the adopted Health Education TEKS which can be found on the Texas Education Agency’s website (https://tea.texas.gov/academics/subject-areas/health-and-physical-education/health-education).
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004, a parent/guardian is entitled to review curriculum materials for these special topics used for instruction in the grade level of the student. Information regarding curriculum materials on these special topics, including processes for parental review and opportunities to purchase copies as applicable, are provided below.
The parent/guardian will receive communication regarding when the instruction will be provided to students with the opportunity to opt-in, allowing your student to participate in the curriculum on these special topics of human sexuality instruction, child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.

Instruction in human sexuality will be provided to students later this fall. Parents will receive a separate parental consent letter specifically for human sexuality instruction. Parents will also be provided with guidance on accessing and reviewing materials for human sexuality instruction.
