Marisol Contreras-Rico

Whole Child School Counselor

I was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and moved to Salinas at the age of 3 with my parents, 2 older sisters and older brother. I attended Alisal Community School also part of Alisal Union School District. I loved going to school there; the culture, the teachers and only a short walk from my home. I've returned to Alisal Union because of the community, it's my home.

I enjoy listening to music, dancing, spending time with my family, crafting, floristry, practicing mindfulness and yoga and walking in nature with my family.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Alisal Union School District is committed to support ALL students and families to engage in social and emotional learning (SEL), which is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. The following are the 5 SEL competencies outlined by CASEL (link found below) and used to prepare classroom lessons, parent workshops, newsletters as well as group and 1:1 student interventions.
