Sneed Technology

I'm LaTonya Martin, the Instructional Technology Specialist at Sneed!

This is my first year at Sneed! For the past 8 years my home campus was Alexander. I was a 4th grade self-contained teacher, so I know the challenges. My goal is to establish relationships and see when I can offer support. I may not know all the answers to your questions, but if I cannot we do have an AMAZING tech support department in Alief. The easiest way to reach them 281-498-8110 x 22530.

This website is intended to serve as a guide to help you troubleshoot your problems. I may not always be readily available and this resource is here to help you get answers in a timely fashion.

I look forward to helping you level up your Schoology usage and technology integration this year, as well as creating a Technology Action Team to keep me in the know of technology needs. I am excited to share my new journey with you!

With Love,

LaTonya Martin

Computer Help

  • Computers and laptops should be turned on daily and left on when you leave for the day- it will install important updates automatically before shutting down.

  • For basic troubleshooting, check out the Troubleshooting guide.

  • If you are using a personal device, be sure to connect to the AISDBYOD network and log in using your network username and password (do not use 'sponsored'). This will NOT work for paras.

  • If an Alief laptop will not connect to WiFi, plug it in to an ethernet cable and RESTART it. Unplug it, it should connect. If not, call 22530.

  • If a desktop tells you there are "no log on servers", call 22530 to put in a work order.

  • For connectivity or other issues, please call 22530 and put in a work order.

Asking a neighbor for help with your issue will often get you a quicker solution than Tech Services- they have been overwhelmed with calls and requests. Some problems, however, will require a call to them.

Our tech, John, is usually on campus on Mondays, so plan accordingly. His workday at Sneed is built around the work order tickets that have been submitted, so get them in!

Ethernet cords are often blue, but can also be found in a variety of other colors. When having a connection problem, make sure both ends are plugged in securely.

Phone and PC Connections

When setting up your computer and phone, consider configuring your teaching area to include a webcam attached to the computer as well as how the camera will be set up for virtual students to participate.

Also, please be careful when connecting your internet through the phone, if done incorrectly the whole campus will lose internet access. Check out the friendly reminder from Best Elementary to the left on which cords go where.

Plugging in Computers

Plugging In Computers

We have several different desktop models in Alief, but all connect the same way.

Need help setting up your desktops in your room? Watch the video above!

Still stuck? Ask a neighbor!

Use a power strip for all computer components- do not plug them directly in to the wall.

Zoom: Webcam

Simply plug in your webcam and launch zoom using Google Chrome.

https://zoom.us/signin

Make sure your audio choices match the picture above.

Multiple Monitors

Multiple monitors will allow you to check attendance, email, or grades on your monitor while showing a video, webpage, or another image on your projector. Some presentation computers in classrooms, computer labs, or conference rooms have this option; however, the district is not required to provide you with one.

A projector can also be considered a second monitor. Hit the Windows key + P to change the set up of your monitor and projector.

You can choose to bring in your own monitor. The district is not liable for damage or theft of personal devices.

Zoom

Sign in to Zoom using https://zoom.us/ rather than downloading the app. You will have all of your necessary features.

If you are using an Alief Laptop, please connect to the Wifi using a hotspot as our network is not going to be able to maintain so much streaming. If you do not have a hotspot checked out to you, please check one out from Ms. Arteaga in the front office. It is to remain on campus. Multiples will not be checked out.

Chromebook troubleshooting

Did your students bring back a Chromebook where the parents logged in for them on their email? Or maybe the student just forgot their passwords? No worries! Powerwash it!

  • Go to the log in screen (exit guest if you are on that profile)

  • Hold down CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + R on the keyboard

  • Click through to delete all data

  • Set up WiFi (using a hotspot OR the AISDBYOD)

  • Sign in using their Google Account-

Google Accounts

All students have an Alief managed Gmail account.

######@ga.aliefisd.net

    • Password may be their Hub password- they have been updating them during Tech Block- contact K Gonzalez or Ms. Lewis for help resetting it.

TMobile Hot Spots

Students were able to check out hot spots for virtual learning and should have returned them to campus with their devices when we came back to in person learning.

Students can connect to hot spots while using devices in the classroom, too. To find the hot spot name...

  • Click the power button until you see "Franklin T9 ####" - that is the name of the network

  • Click the power button one more time to see the password

iStation And Classlink On Chromebooks

If your students are unable to open Schoology on their Chromebook or run iStation, be sure that two things are happening...

  1. Ensure the students are actually logged in to the Chromebook using their school Gmail account or if they are in the GUEST account (which will not function).

    1. Click on the Quick Settings Panel at the bottom right of your screen.

    2. You should see a window pop up. If it has the student's name- you are good! Proceed to the next step. If you see "guest", click exit and sign the student in before proceeding.

  2. Ensure that the student has installed the iStation and Classlink Extensions. The easiest way to do this is simply google "istation extension" and "classlink extension" using the Chromebook, then click to install each.

iStation Issues

1. Before beginning, please ensure that the student is logged in and not using the Guest account on the Chromebook. iStation only works when students are signed in as themselves. Guest accounts will not allow iStation to work.

2. Click on the time in the bottom right corner of the screen to bring up the menu.

3. Click on the gear icon for the settings.

4. On the left side of the screen click on "Apps".

5. Click on "Manage your apps".

6. In the list of applications, scroll down until you see "Istation". Click on it.

7. Click on the last choice for more options. It will open up a Chrome browser window.

8. In the upper right corner turn on "Developer Mode"

9. Three buttons will now appear in the upper left side of the screen.

10. Click on "Update".

Student Log Ins

  • Dell Laptop

    • Username: ID Number

    • Password: Hub Password

  • Chromebook

    • Username: ######@ga.aliefisd.net

    • Password: has been reset- try their Hub password. If that doesn't work, contact K Gonzalez.

AISDBYOD

Students on Chromebooks must utilize  the Alief ISD BYOD WiFi or their hotspot. Eventually, students will be able to utilize the AISD WiFi network. In the meantime, students must connect to the AISD BYOD network. Their login credentials are the same as their AliefHub credentials.

If students are unable to connect to the AISD BYOD network, please contact the help desk at extension 22530.

Student accounts will be updated regularly on the common drive.

Do not use the SNDSTUDENT log in for BYOD.

Document Cameras

All document cameras should be connected via USB to your desktop. Take a look in your tech tub to see if you have the necessary USB cable- you will need either a USB Mini or a USB B.

Open the program Aversphere2 on your desktop to open your document camera.

Need the program or a USB? Email me. Be sure to include a subject and what exactly you need (program, USB Mini, or USB B) and your computer name (printed on a sticker on your CPU) if you are needing the program.

USB Mini

USB B

Promethean Boards

Connect your Promethean to your desktop using the attached Display Port cord and USB.

Be sure your Promethean is plugged in to a POWER STRIP, not to the wall. If you need a power strip, be sure to fill out the form.

View the video to see the basic features of your board.

To switch between Promethean tools and your computer, click "source".

Printers

Printers are provided for instructional purposes only. Print a single copy on hallway printers. ONLY make multiple copies or class sets on the copier.

Violation may result in removal of printing privileges. Print your grad school work at home.

If a printer is in your classroom- plug it in to the power and ethernet ASAP- it must stay in it's original place, moving printers will make them unusable.

Need paper? Check with the work room.

Printer not printing? Call 22530.

Need toner? Open the top of the printer and identify the cartridge you need. Email me the toner cartridge number you need and the room number. If we have one, I will let you know. Otherwise, plan to print to Ricoh.

Do Not Disturb- Phone

Don't unplug and move your phone- it has to stay in it's assigned port or it will not work.
