Welcome to L3SLW! This course is suitable for learners who are interested in biological sciences, especially moving forward into university courses. You will be engaged in research and investigations to build knowledge and make sense of the Living World around you. It is a combination of both practical and theoretical learning. As learners, you will investigate and learn about the responses of plants and animals to their external environment and distinctive trends that were part of human evolution for externals. Internal contexts for learning would include carrying out a practical investigation, allowing you to independently design a first-hand investigation, collect data, and communicate the results using scientific methodology in a biological context. This course will also develop you to investigate a socio-scientific issue that interests you and propose or take action that would help resolve the issue. As learners, you would be able to further your understanding of how a stable internal system within an organism is maintained at an optimal level. Next, you would research how human manipulation of genetics impacts an organism and its future generation. You will work independently, in groups, and with direct instruction from Learning Leaders. The learning and assessment come from the Science and Biology curriculum. Successful learners will gain between 13-22 credits for this course. These standards also offer literacy credits. Possible pathways that this course leads to further education science courses such as health sciences, nursing, midwifery, biological degrees, and many more. This course recommends learners are prepared for learning by having a form of digital access, basic stationery, and the recommended Scipad books for the course.
