The HSHS (Health Sciences & Human Services) Academy is focused on providing experiences for students interested in careers in education, healthcare, human services, government & public administration, and law, corrections, security & public safety.
The HSHS Academy provides opportunities for students to explore careers in healthcare. They can take classes such as Health Careers, Human Anatomy, Human Development and Healthcare CAPS, to name a few.
If you are interested in being a teacher, the HSHS Academy allows you to explore career options. The academy offers courses like Human Service Careers, Human Development, psychology courses and Education CAPS.
Curious about the government and what sort of jobs are available? In the HSHS Academy, students can take classes like Citizen's Academy, Human Service Careers, Law and Civil Liberties and Human Service CAPS to learn more.
Do you want to work with people and help others? Maybe a career in human services is right for you. The HSHS Academy allows students to explore careers in the human services by taking classes such as Human Services Careers, Human Development, Social Issues in Human Services, psychology courses and more.
The HSHS Academy also provides an opportunity for students to explore careers related to law enforcement. Students can take Citizen's Academy and get to be a part of a mock trial, or they they can take Law & Civil Liberties or Human Service CAPS.
Earn your CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification while still in high school. CNA's provide direct patient care and is a great stepping stone to anyone interested in working in healthcare.
Students have the opportunity through Healthcare CAPS and EMR to earn their first aide and CPR certification.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is a course that students can take and develop basic skills in emergency care, basic life support and first aide. Take the class and test out at the end to earn your EMR certification.
This course offers students with a strong interest in pursuing a career in healthcare an authentic experience through community partnerships and job shadowing. Through a strong partnership with Alomere Health, students in Healthcare CAPS get the opportunity to learn directly from healthcare professionals through simulations in casting/splinting, suturing, airway management/intubation, diagnostic imaging and birthing.
This course provides students with a call to action and the ability to meaningfully impact change within the community and beyond through authentic learning experiences. This course relies on community partners for authentic projects for students.
Have you ever thought about being a teacher? If so, take this class. It gives students the opportunity to be in classrooms directly observing teachers and developing lesson plans that they will deliver. Students are also exposed to several opportunities for networking, mentoring, modeling and practicing what they learn.
HOSA members at the state competition
HOSA is a student-led organization. HOSA's mission is to empower future health professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration and experience. The organization actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry. Students can choose from over 70 competitive events to compete in that fall into three categories: tests, skill demonstrations or presentations.
