Welcome to our first newsletter of March 2026. It finally feels as though Spring is beginning to arrive. The longer days and brighter mornings bring a renewed sense of energy across the school.
In assembly on Monday we reflected on the many significant events that take place during March and shared some of the celebrations observed across our diverse Alexandra community. These included St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Baba Marta, Ramadan, Lent, Holi, Purim and Eid, as well as International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, to name just a few. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the richness of cultures and traditions within our school community.
As always, the past fortnight has been filled with fantastic events. Our choir had an incredible experience performing at the O2 as part of Young Voices – a truly memorable occasion for everyone involved and I was delighted to be there to share it with them. Closer to school, we celebrated World Book Day, which brought great excitement across the classrooms. It was especially lovely to welcome parents into school to read with the children and share in the joy of books together.
I also had the pleasure of accompanying our Eco Warriors to the Go Green celebration event at The Green Rooms this week, where they proudly represented the school and demonstrated their commitment to looking after our environment and making Alexandra Primary school more sustainable.
As we move further into the term, there are many more opportunities ahead for learning, celebration and community involvement. Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the school and for helping us to create such a positive and vibrant community for our children.
On Monday, our fabulous choir took part in the Young Voices concert at the O2. We were extremely proud of our 33 young singers who sang their hearts out as part of the largest children's choir in the world. This was unforgettable experience which allows our children to discover their voices, grow in confidence and feel part of something extraordinary. Well done our choir (and thank you to their families for supporting them).
The Young Voices experience is not simply a children’s choir concert! These are the largest children’s choir concerts in the world. Choirs perform alongside 5,000-8,000 other children as a single choir, to audiences of family and friends. Children taking part in YV have the opportunity to perform in some of the world’s greatest arenas alongside incredible artists. To achieve this with all their school friends around them for support, it helps their self-belief, self-motivation, confidence, and ability to communicate as part of a team - which is invaluable!
Well done, Alexandra Choir!
What an exciting week we've had! Our Reading Ambassadors have been absolutely brilliant – they were the first children in school to borrow from our brand-new library collection.
We couldn't have got our library up and running without the support of some wonderful parents who've helped us set everything up properly. We've even got a scanning system now, just like a real library, so we can keep track of who's borrowed what and make sure books find their way home and back again.
We gathered together for a little celebration with some snacks – a small but special moment to kick off World Book Day week. It's been a brilliant reminder of how much joy reading can bring.
What a wonderful World Book Day we celebrated this week. We came together to share our love of reading.
The day began with parents joining their children in class to read together. Our whole school assembly featured an exciting "Guess the Famous Line" video, followed by a brilliant staff catwalk where our Reading Ambassadors were judges.
We were thrilled to welcome author Fatima Ordinola, who inspired our children throughout the day. The children participated in creative activities: designing stunning book covers for the library, delivering book talks, creating beautiful bookmarks, and hunting for stories in our scavenger hunt.
Our afternoon cake sale and book donations were wonderfully supported by staff and Reading Ambassadors.
Thank you to everyone who made this day so special.
What a wonderful week we've had in Creative Club! The children have been learning valuable life skills whilst having fun.
This week, they took on the challenge of preparing their own fruit salads from scratch. It was brilliant to see them carefully chopping strawberries and bananas, peeling tangerines, and working together to create something delicious.
This activity perfectly supports our commitment to promoting healthy schools. By encouraging children to prepare nutritious food themselves, we're helping them develop an understanding of healthy eating habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.
When children are involved in preparing meals, they're far more likely to enjoy eating a variety of fruits and vegetables.
The children really enjoyed this special treat. Well done creative club!
Last week, our whole school assembly focused on an important topic: accepting and celebrating the differences that make us who we are and standing up to racism. We explored what racism means and importantly, how we can all work together to be actively anti-racist.
This conversation linked to our Alexandra values of curiosity, kindness, responsibility and courage. These values guide us every day and they're essential as we build a school community where everyone feels valued and respected. We also connected this to the British Value of accepting each other's differences.
Thank you to all our families for reinforcing these messages at home too.
What a wonderful opportunity we had today when our local MP, Mr Bambos Charalambous, visited Alexandra Primary. Our Year 6 students were absolutely brilliant, demonstrating genuine curiosity and confidence as they asked him thoughtful questions about how our government works, his journey to becoming an MP, and what he finds most rewarding about the role. Mr Charalambous spoke passionately about his work, describing it as "the best job to have".
This visit provided a real-world connection to the British value of democracy, bringing to life what our students learn in the classroom. We're incredibly proud of how our Year 6 students represented Alexandra Primary with such enthusiasm and respect.
What an exciting day our Year 3 children had exploring the Woodberry Wetlands last week! This outdoor learning opportunity was a wonderful way for our children to connect with nature and develop their understanding of local ecosystems.
The children were captivated by the wildlife and habitats they discovered, from observing water insects to identifying different plant species.
Visits like these reinforce our commitment to providing rich, varied learning experiences that inspire our children to become curious, engaged learners. We're so grateful to the staff who organised this visit and to the children for their enthusiasm and respectful behaviour throughout.
As part of their learning about the environment and sustainability, Year 3 created their own placards and took to the streets right outside school to stage their very own protest. It was wonderful to see them so engaged and passionate, shouting slogans like "Stop destroying our rainforest" and "Save our planet!"
This activity really brought our school values to life. Their curiosity about the world around them was evident, their responsibility towards our planet shone through, and they showed real courage in standing up for what they believe in.
When children are given the space to explore, question and take action on things that matter, that's when real learning happens.
Well done Year 3!
What an exciting term it's been for our Eco Warriors! Their "Go Green" film project has been absolutely brilliant and the children have shown real creativity and enthusiasm throughout.
We were so happy with their achievements and delighted that they had the opportunity to celebrate their hard work at the local Green Rooms Restaurant alongside fellow members of the Go Green Project. Seeing the finished film together felt like the perfect way to mark the end of this project. It's given us all a chance to reflect on everything they've learned and created.
The Eco Warriors have shown passion and dedication and we're proud of every single one of them.
Thank you to everyone who's supported this project!
What an exciting week we've had with our Year 5 space topic launch! The children came to school dressed as astronauts or in the colours of their favourite planets.
The day was packed with immersive space-related activities that really brought their learning to life. From exploring the brilliant resources Islington Library had provided to spark their curiosity about the universe, to hands-on investigations and discovery.
A huge well done to Year 5 for their fantastic participation and brilliant attitudes throughout the day. Thanks too to all the families who helped with costumes and supported this launch.
We're looking forward to seeing where this topic takes Year 5 over the coming weeks.
Year 6 have been getting stuck into learning about the heart and last week things got really hands-on when they dissected actual hearts in class. It was really great to watch them make those connections between what they'd seen in diagrams and the real thing in front of them.
The curiosity and engagement we saw was brilliant. Children were asking proper questions, working carefully and really thinking about how each part does its job. It's exactly the kind of learning we want to see. Where children aren't just reading about something, they're experiencing it and understanding it properly.
We are really proud of how our Year 6 have approached their science this term. Well done Year 6!
Colombia Class put on a fantastic assembly last week showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm. They brought the story of the rainbow bear to life through acting, capturing the imagination of everyone watching.
One of the highlights was their brilliant timetable rap – a fun and engaging way to help them remember their daily routines.
Throughout the assembly, the children used music as a powerful tool for learning. They sang beautifully, demonstrating how music can help us remember and understand new concepts. Their singing about continents and oceans was particularly impressive, showing how they've been developing their geographical knowledge in such a creative and memorable way.
Well done to Year 2 for such an engaging and joyful assembly!
What a wonderful celebration of learning we had this week with Costa Rica Class Assembly! Our children took to the stage with such confidence, dressed as rappers and kicking off their performance with their morning affirmation song – a perfect reminder of how they start each day with positivity and purpose.
The children shared their musical journey, singing songs about doubles and the five senses, demonstrating how they weave numeracy and sensory exploration throughout their curriculum. They went on to write and perform their own poems inspired by their senses, showcasing both their creativity and growing confidence as young writers and performers.
Our lively PE dance routine brought energy and joy to the assembly, and we finished with Spanish, a language our children have been practising enthusiastically in class.
Well done Costa Rica Class we are proud of you all!

This half term we've launched an exciting attendance competition to support our drive for better attendance across the school. Working with our school council, we agreed that children with 100% attendance each week would be entered into a prize draw to win a miniature duck – something many of our children have shown an interest in collecting!
Those lucky children who win a duck are then entered into another draw for the chance to win either a popcorn party for their whole class or a £30 Morrisons voucher. It's been great to see how positively the children are talking about attendance and we're already noticing an improvement across the school.
We know that every single day counts and this initiative reminds us of this. Please do encourage your child to take part. It's a fun way to highlight just how important regular attendance is for their learning and development.
Please contact us daily if your child is off ill or for another reason.
