A very warm welcome back to the new school year. It has been a wonderful start with the school buzzing with energy again as we begin the Autumn term.
A special welcome goes to our new Nursery and Reception children and their families, who are beginning their school journey with us. We are delighted that you have joined our Alexandra community and look forward to watching your children grow and thrive over the years ahead. We also extend our welcome to all our new families across other year groups – it is a pleasure to have you with us.
We have lots to look forward to this term. Our new look school website will be live next week, making it easier for you to keep up with school news and celebrate the many achievements of our pupils. We are also proud to announce the opening of RISE House, our new resourced provision which provides tailored support for pupils with additional needs. On Friday 10th October, we will come together for our International Evening – a chance to celebrate the wonderful diversity of our school. I hope to see many of our families there.
I look forward to working with you all over the coming year and to celebrating the successes, growth and joy that each term brings.
Our International Evening is coming soon and we would love your help in making it a true celebration of our diverse community. One of the highlights of the event is sharing delicious foods from around the world. If you would like to contribute, we invite you to prepare a dish from your country or culture to share with everyone. Whether it’s a family recipe or a traditional favourite, your contribution will help us showcase the flavours and traditions that make our community so special.
We are excited to announce that Alexandra Primary School will soon have a brand-new look online! Our website has been completely revamped to make it more user-friendly, modern and easier to navigate.
The updated site will be available at the same web address and will go live on Wednesday 24th September. One exciting new feature is the ability to view our website in your own language, helping us stay even more connected with our wonderfully diverse community.
We can’t wait for you to explore the new design and features—and we’d love to hear your thoughts once it’s live!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back!
I hope you’ve all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. On behalf of the Governing Body, I’d like to warmly welcome you to the new school year at Alexandra Primary-whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we’re so glad to have you as part of our school community.
A special welcome to our new Reception families and any children joining in other year groups—it’s a big step, but we know the staff and students will help make this a happy and positive one. Our school is a place where children are encouraged to grow, explore, and shine, and we’re excited to support them on that journey.
As governors, our role is to work closely with Mrs Clarke and the school staff to help shape the direction of the school and ensure every child gets the very best education in a safe, supportive environment. We’re proud of what Alexandra Primary continues to achieve, but we know there is always room for improvement, and this year we’re looking forward to building on that success.
There’ll be lots going on this term—learning, trips, events, and hopefully a few surprises too! Please do keep an eye out for updates in newsletters and the, soon to be relaunched, school website , and if you ever have any questions or want to know more about what the governors do, don’t hesitate to get in touch via the school office.
Wishing all of our children a brilliant start to the year—full of fun, learning, and friendship.
Warm regards,
Caroline Schloss

Our values are Kindness, Curiosity, Courage, and Responsibility.
To kickstart our new school year, classes have been exploring what these values mean to us and how we can live them each day.
Year 6 children have reflected on how they will embody each value and have expressed their ideas through art. Their thoughtful and creative work is now proudly displayed around the school.
We are excited to continue embedding our values into daily school life and to see the many ways our pupils bring them to life.
We are very proud of our musical learning at Alexandra. We are continuing to enrich this further with our Musician of the Month. This month, we are learning about Bob Marley – I wonder who we will discover in October?
Haringey Music Service can provide music lessons one-to-one or small groups. If there are enough children interested, then Haringey Music Service will be able to provide a teacher who would teach your child in school. The cost of ten lessons each term is as follows:
A 30 minute shared lesson (with one other child): £96 (£0)
A 20 minute individual lesson: £128 (£32)
A 30 minute individual lesson: £192 (£96)

We are delighted to welcome our new EYFS families, as well as welcome back our returning ones. The children have been settling into the Early Years beautifully—getting to know each other, building relationships with staff, and learning their new routines. Most importantly, they’ve been having lots of fun along the way!
We are so excited for the year ahead and look forward to all the wonderful learning and experiences it will bring.
This week in Science, Year One have been learning all about the different parts of a flowering plant. The children discovered the important roles of the roots, stem, leaves, and petals, and how each part helps the plant to grow and survive. To make their learning hands-on, they designed and created their very own flowering plants using a variety of craft materials. Once complete, the children carefully labelled each section, proudly showing their knowledge and creativity. It was a fantastic way to combine science with art, and the class thoroughly enjoyed seeing their plants come to life!
This week, our children dived into a series of exciting activities designed to spark their creativity for first-person recount writing. Their laughter filled the park as they played together, feeling the wind whip around them.
Back inside, story time was made even sweeter as the children shared fresh fruit, fostering a sense of community and healthy habits. the fun didn't end there as they also enjoyed practising their skills with Numbots on the iPad, while the hall buzzed with energy during an exhilarating circus skills session.
It was a wonderful day of learning, play, and friendship — all inspiring the children’s imaginations and writing their recount for the week ahead.
Year 3 Stepping into the Stone Age
Year 4 have been exploring life in the Stone Age. The children have been busy creating artwork inspired by this fascinating period and building their own timelines to understand when key events happened. A creative and hands-on way to bring history to life!
We’ve kicked off the year with some exciting role play in science. To help us understand the different states of matter, we became particles ourselves!
Solid: packed closely together
Liquid: close, but able to move around
Gas: spread far apart and free
Through acting it out, we could really see how particles behave in each state—and we had so much fun learning!
This term, Year 5 have Forest School sessions —and what an adventure the first session was! The children worked together to build a bridge, experimented with natural art by painting with blackberries, and got creative in the mud kitchen. It was a fantastic start to their outdoor learning journey, full of teamwork, imagination, and lots of muddy fun!
We started the day watching Neville Chamberlain announcing that Britain was at war with Germany. Then, a siren then went off and we had to hide under our makeshift bomb shelters - our tables!
Following this, we went to the hall where we were put onto different carriages of a 'train' which took us to safety in Devon.
The day gave us an insight into what it might have been like to be evacuees in the war. It was a really immersive experience!
In year 6, we have been exploring value with up to 7 digit numbers using number lines, place value charts and Gattegno charts. We have been ensuring we are able to use our oracy skills to talk about our maths learning and are using concrete resources to deepen our understanding.
Year 2 are preparing for their Great Fire of London Launch Day!
Save the date: Tuesday 23rd September
To kickstart our school year, Mr. Ken led our first music assembly. He had us all singing, dancing, and celebrating being together again. We ended the assembly with our school song, filling the hall with energy and joy.
A big thank you to Mr. Ken for bringing us together and reminding us how special our school community is.

You may have noticed some exciting progress on site — the steel framework for the brand-new staircase is now in place! This marks an important step forward in the transformation of RISE House and we can’t wait to see the project continue to take shape.
In the meantime, we’re delighted to share that our provision has successfully opened at an alternative site. We’ve been warmly welcoming our new pupils, who are already settling in well. We look forward to the day they can fully join the Alexandra community once the building is ready for them.
This is just the beginning — watch this space for more updates in the coming weeks!
