A very warm welcome back to everyone for the Spring term. It has been lovely to see the children return so settled and enthusiastic and to feel the buzz around school once again.
It’s great to see our clubs starting up again this term. These activities offer such valuable opportunities for our pupils and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff who generously give their time to run them.
We are also delighted to be back at Forest School. This term our Y3 pupils will enjoy being outdoors and exploring the changing seasons. Forest School provides such rich learning experiences at this time of year and we go whatever the weather!
I am pleased to welcome Ms Grace Leedham, who has joined us as our new teacher in Reception. We are thrilled to have her as part of our school community and know she will be a wonderful addition to the team.
Finally, we are pleased to share that we have invested in purchasing additional books for our school library. This will further support our commitment to fostering a love of reading and ensuring children have access to a wide range of engaging books.
We look forward to a positive and productive Spring term ahead.
What a fantastic start to 2026 we've had with our recent Music Assembly! Mr Ken truly brought our school to life with an incredible celebration of music that had everyone joining in the fun.
The assembly was a vibrant and energetic experience that saw our children dressing up, dancing, and singing along to songs we've been learning throughout the year. It wasn't just the children who got involved, our staff members were also invited to join the dancing, creating a wonderfully inclusive and joyful atmosphere.
This musical celebration was the perfect way to kick off our return to school, bringing energy and excitement to our first music assembly of the year. Mr Ken's approach to music is always engaging and this assembly was no exception.
We look forward to many more musical moments like this throughout the year.
We are excited to share that 2026 is the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust. This special year aims to inspire a love of reading by making it fun, meaningful and social for everyone. Reading helps children succeed in school, supports wellbeing, builds empathy and brings people together — and we want all our families to be part of this journey.
Here at Alexandra, we are really looking forward to celebrating reading in lots of exciting ways. Children will enjoy using our new school library, taking part in special reading activities, trips and visits, and celebrating events such as World Book Day. We will be sharing ideas and opportunities throughout the year so families can enjoy reading together at home too.
Please stay tuned — there are lots of exciting things ahead as we Go All In for Reading!
Our children have been diving into their core text, "Flat Stanley", through an incredibly creative and immersive approach that truly brings learning to life.
The Year 3s have been role-playing different parts of the story, and in a wonderfully imaginative twist, they've been exploring what it might feel like to be 'flat' by lying on the floor. This hands-on approach allows them to step into Stanley's world, understanding his experiences from a truly unique viewpoint.
This term, we're also embracing the National Year of Reading with enthusiasm. Reading is not just about decoding words, but about opening doors to imagination, understanding, and learning. We're committed to inspiring a love of reading across our school, encouraging our children to explore new worlds, ideas, and perspectives through the magic of books.
These moments of creative learning and our commitment to reading demonstrate how we strive to make education engaging, memorable, and meaningful for our children.
This week, we have been focusing on an important aspect of child safety and well-being through our whole-school assembly using the NSPCC Pants resources. These valuable resources play a crucial role in empowering our children with the knowledge and confidence to understand personal boundaries and stay safe.
The NSPCC Pants resources provide an age-appropriate and sensitive approach to teaching children about personal safety. Through carefully designed materials, we aim to support our children in understanding their right to feel safe, recognising inappropriate behaviour and knowing how to speak up if they ever feel uncomfortable.
Our assembly was designed to create an open, supportive environment where children could learn about personal safety in a way that is both informative and reassuring.
By introducing these resources, we demonstrate our ongoing commitment to creating a safe, supportive learning environment where every child feels protected, respected and heard.
I want to take this opportunity to remind our school community that safeguarding is a collective responsibility. We encourage open communication and support for our children, ensuring they always know they can talk to trusted adults if they have any concerns.
One of the highlights this week has been the launch of this term's clubs. Creative Club got started this week with a wonderfully engaging cooking activity that really captured the children's imagination and enthusiasm.
Our children dived into a hands-on experience, creating pizza bagels that were as much about learning as they were about enjoyment. Watching them carefully spread tomato purée and sprinkle cheese on their bagels was a joy to see. These moments are more than just fun, they're about building skills, encouraging creativity and nurturing curiosity.
At Alexandra Primary, we believe in the power of extra-curricular activities. These experiences are crucial in developing a wide range of skills that support our children's holistic growth. Whether it's through cooking, art, sports or other activities, we're committed to providing opportunities that spark curiosity, encourage creativity and help our children explore their potential.
Our Creative Club is just one example of how we strive to create engaging learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom setting.
We look forward to seeing what other exciting things the creative club get up to.
The Year 3 children in Argentina class have been diving into the vibrant world of Ted Harrison, an artist celebrated for his bold and imaginative landscape paintings. They’ve been exploring his unique style, which features strong lines and a rich palette of colours.
In their recent art lesson, the children had the chance to experiment with watercolours. They took a close look at Harrison's techniques, focusing on how he uses colour and composition to create his art.
It's been wonderful to see their attention to detail as they bring their own artistic visions to life, inspired by Harrison’s approach.
Our playground is a lively space where children can explore, discover and grow. We truly believe that play goes beyond just fun. It's a vital part of children's education.
This week, our Reception and nursery children have shown just how powerful this can be as they worked together on building projects and enjoyed sharing stories.
It’s been inspiring to watch our youngest learners be creative, collaborate, construct imaginative structures and dive into books. They’re not just having fun; they’re building essential skills like teamwork, communication and creativity.
These experiences are key to their learning journey and help shape who they are becoming.
Our Year One children recently embarked on a journey through space with their 'Space Day'.
The children explored fascinating facts about our solar system with enthusiasm and curiosity. What made this day really special was the hands-on learning that brought scientific concepts to life in creative ways.
One of the highlights was their planet cookie-making activity. The children carefully rolled out dough, decorated their planet-shaped cookies and then enjoyed eating their delicious creations.
The scientific exploration continued with an experiment involving fizzing planets. The children were captivated as they observed the exciting chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar, creating spectacular "planet explosions" that sparked wonder and curiosity about scientific principles.
We can see from their faces that this was a truly enjoyable and exciting experience for everyone involved. Well done, Year 1!
This week, our Year 4 children showcased their learning during a fantastic assembly. They transported us back in time through their exploration of the Romans, sharing knowledge they've accumulated throughout the autumn term. Their historical understanding was beautifully complemented by impressive artwork that brought their learning to life.
Science came alive too through their exploration of the water cycle, where children demonstrated a clear understanding of this natural process.
The assembly's highlight was undoubtedly their musical performance with the recorders. Children performed Bruno Mars' "Count on Me". Their confidence and teamwork shone through, reflecting the valuable music learning they've undertaken this term.
Our children continue to impress us with their curiosity, creativity and commitment to learning. Well done Mexico class!
Our children have recently explored an important environmental theme through their holiday homework focused on recycling. The Year 3 children in Bolivia Class have shown remarkable creativity and dedication to understanding sustainability. This recycling task has provided them with an engaging learning experience and a chance to think critically about our environment and how they can make a positive impact.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and creativity the children have demonstrated while completing this homework.
Keep up the good work Year 3!
Our Year 3 Bolivia class had their first forest school adventure this week at Ally Pally.
Forest school is a great outdoor learning experience that takes our children beyond the traditional classroom walls, allowing them to explore, discover and connect with the natural world around them. For our Bolivia class, this first week has been an opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and engage with learning in a completely different environment.
These outdoor sessions are more than just a change of scenery. They provide our children with hands-on experiences that support their physical, social and emotional development. From understanding nature's ecosystems to learning practical skills like teamwork and problem-solving, forest school offers a holistic approach to education that complements our classroom learning.
We look forward to hearing more about their experiences and the skills they're developing during these forest school sessions.
Our Year 4 children have been exploring the wonderful world of yoga this week. This practice offers many benefits, helping them build flexibility, strength, and importantly, mindfulness.
Our PE curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded experience in physical education, supporting children's physical and mental well-being.
In these guided sessions, the children are not just learning physical movements; they’re also discovering techniques for relaxation and body awareness.
We are excited to share an update on our ongoing development project that many of you have been watching closely. Our caretakers house is now starting to take shape.
The most recent development is the installation of windows in the new stairwell, which has transformed the space and given us a clearer vision of how the building will look. The outside area is also developing beautifully, with a new climbing frame and play hut for children.
We're currently looking towards Monday 26th January as our new completion date. While there's still quite a bit of work to be done, we're hopeful about moving into our new space as soon as possible.
We look forward to sharing more updates with you as we get closer to occupying this new space.
We would like to extend our thanks to all our Year 6 parents who attended the recent SATs Information Session. Your participation is invaluable as we work together to support our children during this important time.
We appreciate your commitment to understanding the Key Stage 2 SATs assessments and how they play a critical role in your child’s transition to secondary school, helping to determine their academic progress.
Thank you once again for your engagement and support.
I wanted to share an important update about our ongoing commitment to physical education (PE) at our school.
This week, I have been engaged in our PE monitoring cycle, an important process that helps us ensure the highest quality of physical education for our children. During this cycle, I've been observing and evaluating our PE provision, examining how we can continue to support and enhance our physical education curriculum.
The monitoring process allows us to take a close look at our current PE practises, understanding our strengths and identifying areas where we can make improvements. It's an opportunity to ensure that every child at Alexandra Primary receives the best possible physical education experience.
All our children have two PE lessons each week—one outdoor lesson with Ms. Carly and one indoor lesson with their class teacher. Additionally, through our partnership with Tottenham Hotspur, we have secured football coaching sessions for all classes from Year 1 to Year 6. Please refer to the curriculum newsletters for details on when your child's class will have their Next Gen Spurs football session.
Additionally, we are committed to enhancing our participation in competitive sports throughout the borough. Last term, some of our children proudly represented our school at various sporting events and we are keen to expand these opportunities this term. Stay tuned for updates!
