As we reach the end of the Autumn term, I would like to thank our pupils, staff and families for their continued support and commitment during another busy and rewarding term.
We have enjoyed a wonderful range of seasonal events. Our musical showcases were a real highlight. I always love hearing the children sing and feel incredibly proud of their musical talents. Their enthusiasm, confidence and joy in performing are truly special and I often find these moments quite emotional. It is a pleasure to share these performances with our school community.
The pantomime visits brought lots of laughter and excitement, creating a lovely sense of festive anticipation across the school. Our Christmas lunch was thoroughly enjoyed by all and provided a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate.
Alongside the festivities, learning has continued right up until the end of term, with pupils showing focus, curiosity and enthusiasm in their work.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. I wish you all a happy and restful break and look forward to welcoming everyone back in the Spring term.
As the winter chill set in, our EYFS children showed wonderful imagination and creativity in finding a way to keep warm. Together, they built a cosy campfire and delighted in roasting marshmallows, sharing laughter and stories along the way.
This activity wasn’t just about warmth—it was about collaboration, problem-solving, and the joy of turning ideas into reality.
Their play captured the spirit of our school values: curiosity in exploring new ideas, kindness in sharing the experience, courage in trying something different, and responsibility in working safely around the fire. It was an endearing reminder that even in the coldest weather, imagination can spark warmth, friendship, and values in action.
Year 2 have been doing some amazing work in Spanish! The children used puppets to create and perform conversations with each other, confidently practising their speaking skills. They also took part in role-play activities, describing features to a police officer, which was fascinating to watch.
The children thoroughly enjoyed working with the puppets and showed great enthusiasm and creativity throughout the lesson.
Our recent Christmas musical showcase for Years 3 and 4 was truly spectacular! The children demonstrated remarkable courage, with some children performing brave solo performances and piano pieces.
The morning was filled with joy as children, parents, and staff came together to enjoy classic Christmas songs. We enjoyed singing along to favourites like "Hero", "Feliz Navidad" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". This year, we also included the beautiful "Snowman" song, adding an extra touch of magic to our performance.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Year 3 and 4 teaching teams, along with Mr Ken and Ms Kennedy, who worked hard to bring this wonderful show together. We also want to thank our parents for joining us for this festive occasion.
We are incredibly proud of our children's confidence and talent and we look forward to seeing them perform again soon.
Our Year 5 and 6 musical showcase was also a great success. The talent and confidence displayed by our children was outstanding. Several of our students performed solo pieces, and we are incredibly proud of their skills and bravery.
Our school orchestra also showcased their musical talent and passion as they played the instruments they have been learning this year.
We remain committed to nurturing the diverse talents of our children and providing them with platforms to shine and we look forward to seeing them perform again soon.
Our Year 1 and 2 musical showcase was an absolute highlight. We were so pleased to see so many of our children taking on solo performances, with our orchestra beautifully playing alongside them.
The performance was so popular that we could barely fit all the proud parents into our school hall - a wonderful problem to have!
We want to extend our thanks to all our dedicated staff who supported this event and made it possible. A special mention must go to Mr Ken, who was instrumental in helping our children prepare and deliver such an outstanding performance.
Well done everyone!
Last week, our Reception children sang loud and proud for their families as part of their Christmas countdown. With the help of their advent calendar, they shared joyful songs about Rudolph, Santa, snowmen, Stars and Christmas Trees filling the hall with festive cheer.
The performance was a wonderful reflection of how settled, confident, and happy the children are in Reception. Their enthusiasm and smiles lit up the stage, showing just how much they have grown this term.
A huge thank you to all the friends and families who came along to support the show. Your encouragement means so much to the children and staff, and helped make the celebration truly special.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Reception Team and Mr Ken for their creativity, dedication and hard work in putting together such a fantastic show.
Our Year 1 children recently enjoyed an exciting visit to the Paddington Bear experience following a highly successful fundraising event.
The trip was particularly special because it connected their classroom learning about London with a fun, interactive experience. Our Year 1s didn't just read about the city – they experienced its charm and character through the delightful lens of everyone's favourite marmalade-loving bear.
Just like Paddington preparing for Marmalade Day, our children were prepared, curious, and ready to learn.
We look forward to sharing more exciting experiences and achievements in the coming weeks.
The children built their own fire, roasted marshmallows, and sipped hot chocolate — all just before the rain came pouring down. They’ve truly embraced their Forest School experiences this term, developing confidence, teamwork, and a real love for the outdoors.
Last week, our children had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the magic of pantomime – a highlight of the festive season!
Nursery to Year 2 were treated to a magical performance of The Wizard of Oz here at school. The children were captivated by the characters and songs, and their excitement filled the hall.
Years 3 to 6 travelled to Chickenshed Theatre to watch their spectacular production of Red. The show was full of energy, creativity, and imagination, leaving our older pupils inspired and delighted.
This Tuesday was our Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Dinner, which brought joy and excitement to our entire school community.
Our kitchen team prepared a Christmas lunch including roast turkey, roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The children were delighted with the special meal, which included traditional Christmas crackers. The children wore their jumpers and Christmas hats and shared their Christmas cracker jokes.
Our staff fully participated in the celebrations, helping to serve the children and then enjoying lunch together with their classes. It was a heartwarming experience that highlighted the sense of community within our school.
Although we had a festive lunchtime, we maintained our regular learning throughout the day, with children continuing their lessons – just with a bit more seasonal cheer and colour in the classrooms.
The day demonstrated how we can blend celebration and learning, creating memorable experiences for our children while ensuring their educational journey continues uninterrupted.
We are delighted to share an exciting recent achievement that celebrates our children's creativity and community engagement. This year, our local councillor Peray Ahmed invited our children to participate in a Christmas card competition, with the winning design to become her official Christmas card for 2025.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Matey from Year 6 was selected as the competition winner, with a beautiful Christmas card design that truly stood out. In a special whole school assembly, Matey joined us remotely along with the other winners to receive recognition for their artistic talents.
During this assembly, Councillor Peray Ahmed spoke to our children about her role within the council, which fitted perfectly with our previous assembly two weeks ago focused on democracy which was led by our school council.
After the assembly, the winners of the competition were invited with their parents and Mrs Clarke to the council offices to meet with Councillor Ahmed.
These experiences offer our children meaningful opportunities to engage with their local community, understand democratic processes and showcase their creativity.
We continue to be impressed by the enthusiasm and talent of our children at Alexandra Primary.
In Design and Technology, Year 3 have enjoyed learning about pneumatic systems and how air can be used to make things move. They designed and created moving monsters using egg cartons, cardboard, gloves, tubes, and elastic bands.
The children decorated their monsters creatively and enjoyed testing them, evaluating how well they worked, and making improvements to their designs.
Look at their fantastic designs!
This Monday, our school nurse from Whittington Hospital visited us to talk with children about oral health, explaining why caring for their teeth and gums is important.
The children learned about the benefits of good oral hygiene, such as preventing cavities and keeping their smiles healthy, as well as potential issues that can arise when teeth aren’t properly cared for.
The visit helped our children understand simple habits they can practice every day to protect their oral health, like brushing after meals and what foods /drinks to avoid.
Thank you to the nurses from Whittington Hospital for supporting us with this important matter.
We would like to remind families that Pokémon cards (and other trading cards) should not be brought into school.
While we understand that collecting and trading cards can be a fun hobby at home, they can cause difficulties in school. We have noticed:
Disagreements and arguments between pupils over trades or ownership
Distraction from learning and playtime activities
Risk of cards being lost or damaged, leading to upset
To ensure that our school remains a safe, happy, and focused environment for all children, we kindly ask that Pokémon cards and similar items are kept at home.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain positive play and learning experiences for everyone.
You may have noticed the recent progress on our caretakers' house. The scaffolding has now been removed, revealing some wonderful improvements. We are particularly pleased to report that the new staircase is in place and the new windows have been successfully fitted. These changes are transforming the space and bringing our vision for the building to life.
The outdoor area is another aspect of the renovation we're looking forward to seeing develop. We're committed to creating a space that not only meets our functional needs but also enhances the overall environment of our school.
Look out for more updates as the work progresses.
Our Eco Warriors have worked incredibly hard this term to create a fantastic short film focused on sustainability. It has been inspiring to watch the project come to life, as the children developed and brought their own ideas into the script. They even had the exciting opportunity to film and interview some very special guests!
Well done to our Eco Warriors for their dedication, creativity, and genuine care for the environment.
This term, our focus in Religious Education at Alexandra has been on strengthening curriculum consistency and pupil engagement. We are currently using Kapow as our main RE resource, which is supporting staff to deliver well-structured and meaningful lessons. Although we are still embedding the scheme, it provides a good foundation for RE teaching across the school.
WE have also been developing our understanding of the importance of teaching RE from the very beginning of a child’s school journey. The RE framework highlights that high-quality RE helps children develop knowledge of different religions and worldviews, alongside key skills such as reflection, discussion, and respect for others. It emphasises the importance of explicit teaching, opportunities for pupil voice, and making learning relevant to children’s own lives.
We are committed to fostering thoughtful, respectful learners and creating a positive RE culture at Alexandra, with the aim of helping our children develop empathy, curiosity, and a strong understanding of the diverse world in which they live.
Ms Ahmed and Ms Ibrahim
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to inform you that the government has just passed a new housing act called “Awaab’s Law”. Awaab's Law is a new rule for social landlords (like the council or housing associations). It was created after the tragic death of a two-year-old boy, Awaab Ishak, who died because of severe mould in his home that his landlord ignored. The main point of the law is to force landlords to fix serious problems in your home very quickly and stop them from ignoring dangerous issues like persistent damp and mould. If you report an emergency, like a leak, the landlord has 24 hours to investigate and start fixing the issue. If you report a significant hazard like severe damp and mould, they have to begin the repair within 5 working days and investigate within 10 working days.
If you are currently living in Temporary Accommodation or renting privately, there are various organisations available to support you and answer any questions you may have regarding your housing situation:
