Welcome to the first newsletter of this half term and it’s a packed issue with many exciting updates from across our school community.
We were delighted to officially open our newly refurbished school library last week. This vibrant space will be at the heart of our reading culture, providing students with a quiet, inspiring place to explore new stories and develop their love of books. We received lovely feedback from our guest author Sita and visitors from the National Literacy Trust who commented on the engagement and excellent behaviour of our children and the work of our Reading Ambassadors.
Next week marks one of the most anticipated times of the year: Sports Days! All our pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a fun and active morning of friendly competition and teamwork. Year 1 to 6 will be in a new location at Alexandra Palace this year and we encourage families to come along, cheer on the students and enjoy a picnic in the park together afterwards.
Finally, we are looking forward to our Summer Fair on Saturday 21st June, which promises to be a fantastic event for the whole community. With games, food, music and more, it’s a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate. Funds raised will go towards new books and playground resources.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events.
Eid is a time of joy, reflection, and togetherness, and at our school, we are proud to celebrate the diversity of our community. With many students, teachers, and families at Alexandra marking this special occasion, Eid is more than just a holiday—it’s an opportunity to share traditions, learn from one another, and strengthen the bonds that unite us.
As we reflect on this special occasion, we recognise the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where every cultural celebration is embraced. Eid serves as a reminder that our school community is rich in traditions and values that bring us closer together. To all those who celebrated, Eid Mubarak!
Our Summer Fair is next Saturday 21st June and we need your help and support to make sure we have another successful and fun-filled day for our community.

Our nursery children embarked on a wonderful artistic journey after reading Snail Trail, a captivating story that sparked their imagination. Inspired by the book’s colourful themes, they explored shapes, patterns, and movement through their own artwork, drawing inspiration from the famous artist Kandinsky.
Using bright colours and swirling designs, the children brought their own creative interpretations to life. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they expressed their ideas in unique ways, embracing the joy of storytelling through art.
It was truly a fantastic experience, merging literature with creativity to encourage exploration and self-expression. The children’s beautiful work is now proudly displayed, celebrating their imagination and love for learning!
Ruth Stevens, Ms Kennedy's local friend, visited Year 2 this week to read her debut children's book, 'Cally the Curious Caterpillar Who Wanted to Fly'.
The children were excited to meet Ms Stevens and listened attentively as she read her story to them. They gasped in wonder at the crocheted caterpillar and butterfly which Ruth brought out of her goody bag and then discussed the message of the book - ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. At the end of the reading, the children were given the opportunity to ask their own curious questions and they even gave her ideas for her next book. Ruth told us that it will be about the importance of friendship.
We can't wait to read it!
EYFS have been thrilled to welcome some fascinating new guests into the classroom—caterpillars! As part of our continued learning about life cycles, the children have been eagerly observing their tiny arrivals and marvelling at how quickly they are growing.
Each day brings exciting changes, with the caterpillars getting bigger and bigger as they prepare for their incredible transformation into butterflies. The children have loved watching them, asking questions, and deepening their understanding of the natural world in a hands-on, engaging way.
We can’t wait to see the moment they emerge as butterflies, ready to spread their wings! It has been a wonderful experience, sparking curiosity and wonder about the magical process of growth and change.
We were thrilled to officially open our brand-new Robin’s Reading Rooms library with a special day of events and celebrations!
The day began with an exciting workshop led by author Sita, where our Reading Ambassadors from Years 2 to 6 explored storytelling and shared their love of reading. This was followed by a whole school assembly, where Sita inspired children from Years 1 to 6 with stories and a celebration of books.
Later in the morning, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the new reading zone. Our Reading Ambassadors spoke confidently about the importance of reading, alongside speeches from staff, Sita, and guests from the National Literacy Trust. Everyone then had a chance to explore the new space and admire the collection of books—including some of Sita’s own titles.
Workshops continued in the afternoon with Year 4 and Year 5 pupils, who took part in creative sessions around reading and writing.
It was a wonderful day that brought our school community together to celebrate the joy of reading. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the event such a success, especially Ms Herda our reading lead!
Year 3 had a fantastic time at the Science Museum recently, where they took part in an exciting hands-on workshop all about forces! The children explored how pushes, pulls, friction, and gravity work through fun experiments and interactive activities. A highlight of the day was launching rockets—an experience they absolutely loved!
It was a brilliant day of learning that truly brought our science topic to life.
Here are some lovely photos of Year 2 during their visit to the mosque. The children had a fantastic time and learned so much about the features of a mosque and Islamic practices.
It was a valuable and enriching experience for everyone involved, helping to deepen their understanding of different faiths and cultures.
Year 6 have begun their Forest School sessions this half term! From den building to toasting marshmallows around the campfire, they’re set to enjoy hands-on activities that build teamwork, spark curiosity, and strengthen resilience.
It’s a fantastic way to unwind after SATs and embrace learning in the great outdoors.
Year 3 Argentina class assembly theme was discrimination, a topic we have been exploring in our PSHCE lessons. The class felt strongly about sharing why discrimination is unfair and how it can prevent people from being their true selves, regardless of their gender, race, religion, or age.
Through thoughtful discussion and powerful messages, the children reminded us all of the importance of treating everyone with respect, kindness, and fairness.
We are very concerned that an increasing number of pupils are using Lime Electric Bikes before and after school.
Please be aware that under Lime’s user policy and the UK’s legal framework, no one under the age of 16 is permitted to use Lime e-bikes or scooters. Furthermore, in many areas, riders must hold at least a provisional driving licence to use these services legally. This means that Primary School aged pupils are not legally permitted to use them.
More importantly, beyond the legal issues, this presents a significant safeguarding risk. These vehicles are motorised, often used without helmets, and are typically ridden in busy traffic or on pavements, which puts young people at considerable risk of serious injury. We have already had a number of near misses reported locally, and we are increasingly concerned about the lack of supervision and awareness in their use.
If Alexandra pupils are seen riding Lime Bikes before or after school, parents and carers will be notified and they may face a consequence in line with our school behaviour policy of Ready, Respectful and Safe.
We ask for your support in addressing this issue:
Do not allow your child to use Lime or other hire scooters/bikes.
Have regular conversations with your child about road safety and appropriate travel methods.
Please take the time to ensure your child’s journey to and from school is both legal and safe.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Clarke
Chile Class wowed us all with a fantastic assembly showcasing their learning from last term and this term. They began by sharing fascinating facts about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, bringing history to life. The children then hopped into science, acting out the life cycle of a frog with enthusiasm. We were treated to a lively dance routine they learned from Mr Ken, followed by a display of their impressive sculptures created in Art. To finish, they shared important facts about eating a balanced diet, linking perfectly to their D&T lessons.
What a brilliant celebration of learning.
Well done Miss Ibrahim and Chile Class!
We were really proud of the work the children in Chile and Colombia classes did recently, as they completed their learning on Mary Seacole. To finish the topic, the children created beautifully presented fact files showcasing everything they had learned about this inspiring historical figure.
Their writing was thoughtful, informative, and full of fascinating facts. We took some pictures of their fantastic work, which you can see here. Well done, Year 2!
Colombia Class are participating in the Windrush Wonder Art project which explores and celebrates the Windrush stories and uses these as an inspiration for artworks.
The first stage of this project was for Colombia Class to visit Collage Arts, a grassroots arts organisation around the corner from the school. There we participated in a workshop where we learnt a little about the story of the Windrush and explored how it might feel to move from somewhere familiar to somewhere completely different.
Soon, an artist will visit the school to work with Colombia Class to produce artwork inspired by the story of the Windrush.
Year 1 children had a fantastic time exploring the Toy Museum recently! They discovered toys from the past, compared them with those they play with today, and even got to handle some of the toys during an engaging workshop.
They all had a great time!
Our school football team recently played matches against St Michael’s and St Christopher’s. The players showed great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout both games.
Well done to everyone who took part – we’re proud of your effort and team spirit!
Some of our pupils enjoyed a wonderful visit to the city farm recently! They had the chance to meet and feed the animals, learn about farming and nature, and enjoy hands-on outdoor learning. It was a fantastic experience that helped bring our learning to life.
We had an amazing day exploring Wonder Lab, the mysteries of space to the marvels of engineering and the science of flight, the day was packed with thrilling hands-on experiences that sparked imagination and inspired learning.
Through interactive exhibits and experiments, the children explored fascinating scientific concepts, uncovering the wonders of physics, chemistry, and technology in ways that made learning both fun and engaging. Their enthusiasm was contagious as they immersed themselves in discovery, asking questions, testing ideas, and experiencing the world of science in action.
It was truly a day to remember—a celebration of curiosity, innovation, and exploration that left everyone eager to learn more. A fun-filled adventure packed with hands-on learning and discovery. We can’t wait for the next adventure!
Excitement filled the air as Year 3 embarked on a fascinating visit to the largest library in the world. They were amazed to discover that it holds a copy of everything ever written and published—an astonishing collection of over 200 million works!
During the visit, we attended an insightful workshop on maps, where the children had the rare opportunity to examine original copies. This hands-on experience brought history to life, sparking curiosity and deepening their understanding of the importance of preserving knowledge.
Parents and children alike enjoyed this enriching day, leaving the library with newfound appreciation for the vast world of books, maps, and the stories they hold. It was truly a memorable experience, inspiring a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Eco Warriors in Action: A Greener Future Ahead
Our young Eco Warriors have been actively exploring ways to protect the environment through an inspiring collaboration with Collage Arts and the Schools Go Zero initiative. This exciting project has sparked curiosity and creativity, encouraging students to take responsibility for the world around them.
Recently, the children investigated different heat sources and discussed how everyday energy use affects the planet. Through engaging discussions and hands-on learning, they explored practical ways to make a difference—whether by conserving energy, reducing waste, or embracing sustainable alternatives.
But the journey doesn’t end there! In September, our Eco Warriors will embark on a filmmaking project to capture their insights and experiences in a short film. This will give them the opportunity to share their ideas, inspire others, and showcase their commitment to a cleaner, greener future.
At the start of the school year, I introduced a new computing scheme from the NCCE that I wanted us to use throughout the school. Over the past 2 weeks, I have been reviewing how this has been applied and the effectiveness of these lessons. It has been fantastic to see how the children have responded to the teaching of these lessons. I can already see improvements in their understanding of the Computing skills they are learning to use.
I have also reviewed the online safety and safeguarding practices we have in place at Alexandra, and after speaking to a number of children, it is great to see that the children have a good understanding of how to keep themselves and others safe online.
We are always working to find more opportunities for children within Computing, whether it be clubs, resources or workshops and hopefully we can see some of this come into fruition in the near future.
Jamie Smyth, Computing Lead
