What is the 30 Book Challenge? Our challenge is based on the book "The Book Whisperer" written by Donalyn Miller. Research has shown that the more a child reads, the better reader they become. Children who read more have higher vocabularies, expanded world knowledge, and score better on standardized tests. Therefore, this year we are challenging all 3rd-5th grade students to a book challenge. We are very excited about this program. We can’t wait to see the difference it makes in our students as lifelong readers!
The Challenge: Your student has been challenged to read 30 books, from a wide range of choices, by the end of the school year. 30 books may sound like a lot, however, we assure you that we have the utmost confidence that your child will experience success.
The Goal: The goal of this challenge is to encourage each child to read a variety of books. Ultimately we would love to see our students develop a love of reading.
Expectations:
Join Our Challenge! This is our first year implementing The 30 Book Challenge in our school. We would love for others to join the students in this challenge, too! The idea of reading 30 books from a variety of genres is exciting and intimidating at the same time! Please bear with us as we work through this exciting challenge.
