SIX MONTHS. TWELVE BOOKS. ONE FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE.
Get ready for the Battle of the Books, part book-club and part team-competition for all Alden students! Each team reads a total of 12 books over a six-month period. In the Spring, grade-level teams compete in a "Final Battle," showcasing their knowledge of what they've read. All students of all reading levels are encouraged to participate in this fun, team-building experience!
TEAMS. Teams of students in the same grade meet to discuss the books at meetings organized by their Team Leader.
BOOKS. There are 12 books assigned for each grade. This year we have included new titles and a couple graphic novels! Students can listen to audio versions of the books, read with family members or read on their own!
Every team decides how they will cover each book. Some teams plan to read all the books while other teams choose to divide responsibility for the books by assigning specific books to a few students. The books are available to borrow from the Alden School Library and the Duxbury Free Library and can easily be found on a designated Battle of the Books shelf at both libraries.
TEAM LEADERS. Team leaders facilitate the book discussions with monthly meetings and attend the Final Battle of the Books in April. Please see the Team Leaders page for more details. You do not need to create your own materials or read the books. We have questions and suggested activities for your meetings. Please sign up to be a team leader when you register.
