ALDA is a key stakeholder in the field of local democracy, active citizenship, good governance, EU integration, human rights, and cooperation between local authorities and civil society. Most of ALDA's work is based on the method of multilateral decentralized cooperation. This method involves a multi-stakeholder approach which focuses on strong partnerships between Local Authorities and non-governmental organisations. These partnerships create positive synergy and ensure that common goals are reached in a successful way.

ALDA’s peculiar methodology and network enables the best and most efficient practices of institutions and organizations at the local level to be pointed out in order to promote them, share them and make them scale amongst European and non-program countries. Through this, we create the bases for constant collaboration amongst organizations with the same focus within and outside their country.
