1st phase of the Local Labs in Rome

On Wednesday, 29 November 2023, 80 young people were hosted by the Liceo Vito Volterra in Ciampino. Representatives from schools, social centers and the Rome Municipality were present too. The Local Lab mostly focused on the challenge of gender equality (SDG 5).

The Local Lab aimed to strengthen young people's awareness of the role of leading agents of change and innovation, providing them with the technical and transversal skills for creation of ideas, actions and prototypes inspired by the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. Various methodologies were used during the Local Lab, including Design Thinking, Participatory approaches, Action Learning and Peer Learning. After a phase of brainstorming and design thinking, to collect ideas and develop a project idea, the young people collaborated in the creation of an awareness campaign against discrimination and gender violence to be spread on social channels to promote the culture of equality.

What was notable during the Local Lab was that the young people were interested in the challenge of sustainability and appreciated the opportunity to be involved, participants were even impatient to become engaged. However, also a fear for exposure and reserved attitude were noticed when discussing the topic. Nevertheless, the participants left the Local Lab feeling encouraged to engage in the sustainability and equality debate.
