Taking College Classes while in High School

At Alcona High School, we have a thriving culture of taking college classes. Unlike AP or IB classes, getting college credit is not determined by an end of the year test score. These are actual college classes and you earn transferable college credit. We focus on wrapping support services around our students to give them every chance for success in their college classes. We have a great relationship with our college partners and our students are able to take advantage of services like tutoring and proofreading. You will see more about these services below. There are many reasons to take college classes in high school:

If you are a Dual Enrollment student, you can take up to 10 college classes which are paid for by the school. If you commit to the Early College Program, the 10 class limit is removed because you are pursuing a certification or  up to an Associate's degree. Students who want to take college classes are encouraged to take classes that transfer to a program of interest, gain a needed skill set, and/or fulfill the requirements for the Michigan Transfer Agreement (see below). Support and help is available through Alcona and ACC.
