Sports academies and community engagement coaching and opportunities
At Albert Park College, Sport and Leadership work hand-in-hand to develop confident, active, and resilient young people. Leadership encourages students to enhance their own and others’ health, safety, and wellbeing while building skills in personal responsibility, problem solving, communication, teamwork, and resilience. Students participate in a range of engaging programs such as sailing, lifesaving, martial arts, outdoor team challenges, fitness, and health education.
In Sport, students can explore a variety of athletic pursuits and choose a new sport each term. With options including aquatics, basketball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, yoga, and more, Sport fosters participation, enjoyment, and skill development across a wide range of activities. Most sports have no additional cost, though a few may require a small fee for higher-cost electives. Students must wear the full APC sports uniform and bring their Myki card if travelling to an offsite venue.
Students need to arrive ready to learn and ready to move!
You’ll need to be changed into your full APC sport uniform (uniform policy) before class begins, this helps maximise activity time and keeps everyone organised.
Make sure you and your family check emails regularly for any updates from your teacher. Sometimes Sport or Leadership classes may start or finish at an offsite location (for example, a local sports facility). If your class is Period 1 and 2, you might go straight there; if it’s Periods 4 and 5, you may be dismissed from that location.
Don’t forget to bring your hat (Terms 1 & 4) and a drink bottle to stay sun-smart and hydrated.
💡 All equipment is provided, but if you have your own gear, like a tennis racquet, you’re welcome to bring it along.
Students at Albert Park College have the privilege of accessing many of the outstanding community facilities within the Albert Park area. As part of their Sport and Leadership programs, students will travel within the local community and gain valuable experience using public transport. To ensure smooth travel, students should always carry a topped-up Myki card when required to attend offsite activities.
Regularly used venues include Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Lagoon Reserve, Albert Park Tennis and Hockey Centre, South Melbourne Life Saving Club, Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, and JL Murphy Reserve.
💡Over the summer, take a walk around Albert Park to discover these locations.
Albert Park College offers a range of Sports Academies that provide students with the opportunity to develop their athletic skills, build teamwork, and train in a supportive, high-performance environment.
Academy programs often include before and after school training sessions, as well as opportunities to compete in tournaments and friendly matches against other school academies. Please note that academy participation incurs additional costs to cover specialised coaching, facilities, and competition entry fees.

Information and sign-up forms for all Sports Academies can be collected from the Danks Street Front Reception.
