Dr. Sarah Barmann-Smith joined the Albany R-III administrative team in 2014 as the Elementary Principal before becoming the High/Middle School Principal in 2016. Prior to her administrative experience, Dr. Barmann-Smith taught high school English and middle school reading in Albany in 2005-2006. She then moved to Liberty, MO and taught English at Fort Osage High School for 8 years. During that time she was the K-12 ELA Curriculum Facilitator, ELA department chair, involved in planning professional development, received the MVP teacher award, and coached debate/forensics and cheerleading. Dr. Barmann-Smith earned her B.S. Ed. in Secondary English Education and M.S. Ed. in K-12 Educational Administration from Northwest Missouri State University and her Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis through the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her dissertation research focused on administrators' perceptions of teacher effectiveness in rural Northwest Missouri secondary public schools.
Dr. Barmann-Smith is proud to be a Warrior. She has two children in the district and a husband who graduated from Albany R-III. As a building our focus is to provide a quality education for our students by building strong relationships, excelling in student achievement, engaging students, creating and maintaining a safe environment, and encouraging and supporting every student- every day.
