What is Wilderness Welcome?
Wilderness Welcome is an annual orientation trip put on by the Outdoor Adventures program at UAF Nanook Recreation.
Stay healthy and get out in the Alaska wilderness. A big part of enjoying life in Fairbanks is embracing an active, outdoor lifestyle. UAF Outdoor Adventures offers Wilderness Welcome Orientation before the traditional New Student Orientation. Start your time at UAF right by participating in this from August 17-21.
During Wilderness Welcome students from all over the U.S. and the world get to know each other while they explore Alaska's vast wilderness. No experience is required, but all students will be challenged.
The cost of each trip will be $395. This price covers the following:
Early move-in to residence hall
Meals for Saturday (lunch and dinner), Sunday-Wednesday (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
OA gear and equipment
Airport pickup/all transportation
Read the 2024 trip descriptions here.
This program fills up every year so be sure to register early and secure your spot!
Benefits of Wilderness Welcome
Make friends before orientation
Wilderness Welcome is a great way to meet people before orientation starts. You will start off your first semester at college by meeting people with similar interests.
Experience the beautiful wilderness of Alaska
These trips are a great way to get out and enjoy wilderness experiences in Alaska. Many students move up from out of state, so this is a great introduction with fellow students to the wilderness opportunities that AK has to offer.
Early move-in to residence halls
Outdoor Adventures covers your early move-in costs! We will pick you up from the airport and take you to the residence halls, where you can get moved in before orientation starts!
