STAY AHEAD
Early detection saves lives, get screened.
STAY AHEAD'S MISSION
Increasing awareness and screening accessibility of breast and cervical cancer to UAA’s student body.
The National Cancer Institute reports that Covid-19 has significantly reduced the number of cancer screenings.
In 2020, the United States alone, missed out on an estimated 9.4 million screening exams that would have usually been conducted.
Lack of access,
Lack of awareness of recommended cancer screening tests,
Time constraints
Fear of results,
and cost are the most frequent barriers to screening.
Increased awareness and screening accessibility will be advantageous to UAA's diverse student body.
Approximately 70% of students fall within screening age ranges, and more than 60% identify as female. With this population, breast and cervical cancer are among the top leading cause of death due to late detection leading to a decrease in the effectiveness of treatment methods.
