Elders are the key resource to any culture. They know more about who we are and where we come from. Their knowledge spans many generations. In order to preserve a culture, we need to listen closely to what they have to say. Their knowledge needs to be passed on to the children.

Unit Overview
Unit Overview
Students will identify Elders in their community, what they teach us and how to show them respect. Students will create a class book titled, What We Learn From Our Elders, a puppet show called, Acts of Respect, and a class quilt showing how to respect Elders. Students will interview Elders to find out more about their culture. The end of the unit will culminate with an Honoring Our Elders event in which students share their work and gift Elders gifts.
