Fresh Eyes on Ice, coordinator (with PIs C. Arp, K. Spellman, D. Brown, & L. Oxtoby), 2020-present. This program engages K-12 students across Alaska in freshwater ice monitoring and matches community-based observations of freshwater ice thickness to in situ sensors and remote sensing data in order to better understand changing freshwater ice conditions in Alaska. This program is at the heart of my PhD and post-doctoral research. It has engaged 24 community monitoring teams to date.
Sediment, Ice, and Learning on the Tanana (SILT), graduate researcher and K-12 engagement coordinator (with PIs E. Eidam, K. Spellman, C. Arp, & T. Pavelsky), 2022-2023. We created a three-part workshop series for middle school students in Fairbanks and Nenana to test new methods for measuring sediment transportation in the Tanana River underneath river ice. SILT engaged approximately 40 middle school students.
Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska, coordinator and instructor (with PI J. Young), 2018-2025. This tuition-free summer program welcomes cisgender girls and transgender, agender, Two Spirit, nonbinary, intersex, and genderqueer youth, as well as youth who demonstrate allyship with these communities, to engage in field science, art, and outdoor exploration in Alaska. I coordinated 23 expeditions between 2018-2024, including Girls* on Ice Alaska, Girls* on Water, Girls* in the Forest, Girls* in Icy Fjords, Girls* on Ice Cascades, Girls* on Rock, and Girls* on Ice Canada (219 participants). I instructed Girls* in the Forest in 2022.
North Cascades Institute, Youth Leadership Adventures and Mountain School instructor, 2016-2018. Youth Leadership Adventures engages high school students in learning about alpine ecosystems on multi-day backpacking and canoeing trips. I instructed three 8-day backpacking and canoeing trips with groups of 8-10 high school students. Mountain School is a three-day residential environmental education program focusing on the natural and cultural histories of the North Cascades mountains. I taught over 400 hours of Mountain School programming for primarily fifth grade students between 2016-2017.
Colorado Outward Bound School, intern and logistics coordinator, 2014-2016. This program aims to change lives through challenge and discovery on outdoor adventure education trips in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I was the intern instructor for two backpacking courses (one 15-day and one 8-day) and managed logistics for multiple courses over two summer seasons.
