In 2017, the University of Alaska Fairbanks celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day for the first time.  Resolutions from students, staff and faculty groups across the University of Alaska system have unanimously supported recognizing “Indigenous Peoples Day.”  Indigenous Peoples Day honors Alaska Native people, culture and knowledge. It affords time to reflect and acknowledge the Indigenous knowledge that enhances the education provided by the university.

The Kuskokwim Consortium Library and Kuskokwim Campus are holding their fifth annual Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center in Bethel on October 13, 2025.

6 PM: Benediction with ONC Traditional Chief Ignatius "Louie" Andrew; Performances by the Qasgirmiut and Bethel Regional High School dance groups

The theme for the year is Dog Mushing, titled "Breaking Trail: History, Heritage and Huskies", celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 1925 Diphtheria Serum Run to Nome.
