#STOPTHESTIGMA

September 8, 2020 | ALL DAY

#Stopthestigma associated with mental health and suicide.

WHY IS SUICIDE THE "S" WORD?

Shame, stigma, sinful, culturally disconnected, perceived attention seeking behaviors.

These are just some of the stereotypes associated with suicide and mental illness. As a community, we have a responsibility to stop the stigma, and bring awareness, hope, support, and care to the conversation so we can help save lives.

On September 8th, the Nanook Diversity & Action Center encourages the UAF community to feel empowered to

  1. Have conversations about mental health and normalize seeking help and support

  2. Learn more about the impacts of mental health and suicide on our community by following @uafndac on Instagram and sharing our #StopTheStigma content

  3. Pledge to be stigmafree

  4. Share out through social media how you stop the stigma using the hashtag #IStopStigmaBy and tagging NDAC to be featured on our Instagram and Facebook

  5. Wear your National Suicide Prevention Week gear around campus. You can pick up shirts, pins, pens, cards, stickers, and more for FREE outside on the Wood Center deck (or in the Wood Center's multi-level lounge if it's raining) from 11:30am - 3pm on September 8th.
