In this module, you will explore data of mosquito abundance and the seasonality of mosquito populations from 5 distinct collecting locations in Alaska based on NEON data.
Data exploration tool
Below is an interactive data exploration tool of mosquito populations and climate variables from 5 different NEON study sites across Alaska. On the left side panel, you can select these 5 study sites as well as up to four different genera of mosquito (Aedes, Anopholes, Culex and Culiseta). The default display shows you the genus Aedes at Toolik Field Station for the year 2020.
Each point on the graph represents how many mosquitoes per genus were collected on a given day. You can also view the climate variables such as temperature and precipitation below the mosquito graph and consider how they might influence mosquito emergence.
Now that you have viewed mosquito abundance at one site, you can add more genera and/or study sites by clicking on them in the left side panel. Each study site is denoted with different symbols and each mosquito genus is shown in different colors. Do you see any patterns?
