Hello! My name is Karenna. I am a current Ph.D. student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks where I am studying Earth System Science. Here, I also serve as a graduate research assistant with the Alaska Volcano Observatory. Most of my work is Python-based, and I have programmed in the language for all three of my major research endeavors.
While I have many interests within the realm of solid earth geophysics, my thesis will be focused on volcano seismoacoustics. My latest project is centered around the seismic and infrasound signals created during the 13 eruptive events of Shishaldin Volcano in the Aleutian Islands (Alaska, USA).
Outside of research, I am originally from the Pacific Northwest and graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham with a BS in Geophysics in June 2024. Although I miss the views of Mount Rainier and Puget Sound, I am thoroughly enjoying my new life (and lack of traffic!) in Fairbanks. In my free time, you can find me hiking in the mountains, skiing on trails and groomers, and hammocking in the forest -- and taking far too many pictures along the way!
