that require an employee to remain in the building during an emergency.

Building description
The Syun-Ichi Akasofu Building (aka "the IARC building"), located at 2160 Koyukuk Dr on the West Ridge of the UAF campus, is a multiple use facility with approximately 120 rooms used as offices, laboratories, work areas, a large campus library, and storage.
Floor 1 – Laboratories, storage, mechanical rooms
Floor 2 – Administrative offices, research offices, KB Mather Library, Map Office
Floor 3 – National Weather Service offices, Research offices, one conference room
Floor 4 – Administrative offices, three conference rooms, research offices
Floor 5 – Conference room
Floors 1 – 4 each have an east wing corridor leading into the Geophysical Institute (Elvey Building).
Building locking systems
All perimeter entrances, including internal IARC/GI corridor doors, are on an electronic locking system. Doors are scheduled to be open 7:30am – 5:30pm.
All suites (except 203) are on the locking system, on the same 7:30am – 5:30pm schedule.
Individual office doors are not on the locking system, and require hard key access.
Emergency Assembly Areas
The Emergency Assembly Area (EAA) is a designated gathering place where Akasofu/IARC Building occupants must report to and assemble at during an emergency evacuation.
Report to one of these locations in the event of a building evacuation:
West Arctic Health parking lot (south side/front of Akasofu/IARC building)
Arctic Health Research Building (10° F or colder)
Building floor plans
Use the Building Floor Plans to identify:
Evacuation routes from your area
Emergency Assembly Areas (EAAs)
Fire extinguisher locations
Fire alarm pull station locations
First aid kit locations
Oxygen sensor alarms
Evacuation procedures
In the event of an evacuation:
Promptly exit the building by the nearest exit.
Once clear of the building, go to your designated EAA.
Do not re-enter the building until told by an official emergency responder that it is safe to do so.
Medical and rescue duties for employees
No IARC employees have been assigned medical or rescue duties specific to emergency situations at the Akasofu Building.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
An AED is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and sends an electric shock to the heart to try and restore a normal rhythm. Location: Inside front (north) entrance of the Akasofu Building, on the wall to the right.
