GLOBE Snow Measurement Protocols

By attending the Fresh Eyes on Ice training you have become a certified GLOBE teacher and are able to enter data into the GLOBE database to share your data with NASA and a global group of teacher, scientists and students.

NASA uses a variety of instruments to measure snow from space including Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES), and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). They use GLOBE data to help ground truth the measurements taken by these instruments. The remotely sensed data and field measurements are then used to understand how much water will be available for communities or agricultural crops. Your measurements of snow are very valuable!
