Colleges in the United States use standardized tests for admission decisions. Those tests are the ACT and SAT. Students in AZ, take the ACT in April during the school day their Junior year. Students can sign up to take the SAT or retake the ACT through the organization's website.
The purpose of these tests is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. Most colleges and universities will accept scores from either the ACT or SAT. Check the school's admission requirements to determine which test is needed for admissions.

The ACT test covers four academic skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and scientific reasoning. It also offers an optional direct writing test.
Students who attend AZ schools take the ACT during the school day their Junior year in April.
According to ACT, "Colleges consider a range of ACT scores when making admissions decisions, giving students some flexibility. Commonly, students with scores in the range of 20-23 are still considered competitive at many mid-tier colleges. For more selective schools, a score in the 24-28 range will increase your chances of admission."
The The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the United States. Students have the opportunity to earn scholarships based on their scores on the PSAT/NMSQT.
The SAT is composed of two sections: Reading & Writing and Math.
According to SAT, "The average SAT score is around 1050. Any score above that would be above average. A score of 1350 would put you in the top 10% of test takers and help make your application competitive at more selective schools."
