Alaskans celebrate Native Plant Month in May 2025! This site has a calendar of events, self-guided plant walks, curriculum materials for teachers, media kit, and other resources that can be used in May and throughout the year.
Native plants are indigenous species that have evolved alongside native wildlife and occur naturally in a particular geographic region, ecosystem, and habitat.
They are important to our ways of life, our economy, and the health and sustainability of Alaska's ecosystems.
"... I, Mike Dunleavy, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim May 2025 as Alaska Native Plant Month in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to plant native trees, shrubs, and flowers in their yards, remove non-native invasive plants, and educate themselves about the many benefits of native plants."
