CEU
CEU Credit Information
A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit is a available for teachers that would like to use it towards renewing their teacher certification. CEU's require a minimum of 15 hours of course work. Restrictions can be found in the application below.
CEU Requirements
To complete the CEU for ARI's Heggerty Course teachers must do the following:
complete the ARI's Heggerty training in person (zoom) or Asynchronous Course
receive 80% or higher on the final quiz (In person attendees need to request the quiz via email.)
implement Heggerty with a group of students for a minimum of two months
write a 2+ page final reflection paper describing
how Heggerty implementation has gone with your students
how it has changed your reading instruction
how your understanding of Phonemic Awareness has changed/developed
what assessments have been used to drive phonemic awareness instruction
The final reflection paper must be submitted within 6 months of completing the final quiz.
Application
Download, complete, sign, and attach the CEU application and your final reflection paper in an email addressed to melinda.krise@alaska.gov no later than 6 months after the course quiz has been submitted online. Do not send the $50 processing fee at this time.
Forms will be reviewed by Melinda Krise, the DEED employee authorized to offer this CEU. If the form is deemed complete and the research paper adequately shows that the individual has implemented Heggerty with a group of students for a minimum of two months, their understanding of Phonemic Awareness has developed, and used Phonemic Awareness assessments to drive instruction, a CEU Certificate of Completion will be emailed to you and to Alaska Teacher Certification to be added to your file.
