Thanks to all the hard work these students have put in, they are ready for the personal responsibility of their first instrument, a recorder! In third grade your recorder teaches you to watch the conductor, engage your brain and body, have self-discipline, and build a growth mindset. This thing is a full brain workout!
Third grade means we are looking at music on the staff. We figure out line notes and space notes, learn the musical alphabet, and start reading complete sheet music.
We finish off the year by learning all the instrument families and creating a personal book with a page for each family. By the end of the school year each student has an idea of the instrument they like the most, perfect for starting off 4th grade band or orchestra!
Below is a collection of videos to use to practice for the concerts in March. They are still a work in progress, but will update in real time as I finalize our concert materials.
These videos are play-alongs that can supplement the recorder skills we are developing in class.
