CHARACTER TRAITS
Students of Ambassador International University are expected to develop and model the following character traits (which are based on the truths found in God’s Word) for living an abundant, transformed life.
1. Punctuality - Punctuality not only includes being in school on time but promptness in meeting every assignment on schedule, promptness to church services, meetings, appointments, and programs, as well as being punctual to the dining hall.
2. Neatness- Cleanliness is a personal duty. It takes a determined effort to clean whatever may be soiled by use, as well as constant care to prevent unnecessary soiling or disorder. In addition to neatness of person, all work should be done in a neat and orderly manner.
3. Accuracy - We all need to be trained to see, hear, think, speak and write with accuracy. This helps us to avoid the natural tendencies toward guessing, exaggeration, and the impulse to tell more than one knows. Truthfulness is accuracy in word and deed.
4. Quietness - Our times are characterized by speed and noise. These are not evidences of strength, but of weakness. The self-discipline of quietness helps us to avoid unnecessary distractions both to ourselves and to others and promotes concentrated learning.
5. Industry - It is hard work to put forth a steady stream of energy on our daily tasks, especially in school where there is a constant demand to engage in work the ends of which seem remote; but this virtue builds character and teaches us not to take shortcuts in life.
6. Obedience - Every good school insists on holding its pupils to prompt and cheerful obedience. The failure of one pupil to obey the teacher's direction may arrest the progress of the entire class. Also, the student who learns to submit to his teacher's authority may be much more willing to submit to the highest authority: God's.
7. Truthfulness - As teachers we are constantly instilling into the minds of our students a sacred regard for the truth and a manly hatred of falsehood in every form. Students who cheat in school will very likely cheat in life.
8. Humility – Being willing to serve and not be served, being willing to submit to the will of others, being willing to not need to be praised and adored. These are not common in our world today, yet they are characteristics of Jesus Christ that should be found in all believers.
9. Service – Jesus Christ came to serve; not to be served. As a Christian our attitude should be “what can I give” rather than “what can I get”. A servant leader, following the example of Jesus Christ, will have a heart’s desire to seek after the needs of others first.
AIU has an open admissions policy; discrimination is not permitted against any student on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, or age. This open policy allows students from different denominations to apply to the university so that they can be trained as Africa's next generation of spiritual leaders.
ONE GOD,
holy, infinite, eternal and unchangeable. Subsisting in an eternal Trinity consisting of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1; I John 5:7; Revelation 22:13
ONE WORD,
the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, given by the plenary and verbal inspiration of God; and the only infallible rule of faith, doctrine and practice. II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:16-21
ONE CONDEMNATION,
there being no difference as all have sinned and are born in sin. Ezekiel 18:4; John 3:36; Romans 3:10-26
ONE SAVIOR,
the Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh. We firmly attest to His essential deity and virgin birth, His sinless life, His vicarious death, His physical and bodily resurrection from the grave, and His ascension into heaven from where He will return personally and premillenially to set up an earthly kingdom. Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-14; 14:9; Acts 1:11; 3:12-26; I Corinthians 15:12-28; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 9:24; I John 3:5; Revelation 19:19-20:6
ONE ATONEMENT FOR SIN,
made only by Jesus Christ in a substitutionary and sacrificial death on the cross, sufficient for all, available to all, and offered to all. We believe that all must be born again or be forever lost and separated from God. Mark 10:45; Romans 5:10; II Corinthians 5:18-21; Hebrews 2:9; I Peter 2:2
ONE SPIRIT,
the Holy Ghost, through whose sovereign agency in regeneration, the soul, dead in sin, is made alive in Christ; and through whose sovereign agency in sanctification, the soul is changed more and more into the divine image from glory to glory. John 16:7-15; I Corinthians 3:16; II Corinthians 3:18
ONE LIFE,
which is hid with Christ in God, the eternal life; begun when a sinner believes and receives Him, and continues thereafter by the effectual and sovereign grace of God. John 1:12; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:13; Philippians 1:6
ONE CHURCH,
which is Christ's body, all the members of which God has from the beginning chosen to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the Truth. Additionally, admission is according to the "free will" of man and the grace of God through Jesus Christ. I Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:12-14
TWO DESTINIES,
heaven and the Lake of Fire. Heaven is a place of eternal life with Christ. The Lake of Fire is a place of eternal death and separation from God. John 3:16-36; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:1-15
ONE SATAN,
who is both tempter and accuser, who exists in personality and reality. Matthew 4:2-11; John 8:44; Ephesians 6:12; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:9-10
ONE COMMISSION,
the great evangelistic and missionary mandate given by Jesus Christ to the disciples and the continuing church; that the individual should go if led of God and send others if not; that each person in each generation would hear the gospel. Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:14-15
ONE HOPE,
described as "the blessed hope," which is the personal return of our Lord and Savior. Matthew 24:44; Acts 1:1
