Are we permitted to use string and rubber bands in our project?

• Yes, some K'Nex kits come with string and rubber bands so these items may be used.  Teams do not need to purchase these items from K'Nex.

Can our team use pictures as the blueprint?

• There is nothing in the rules prohibiting teams from using pictures as their blueprint.  However, teams would receive lower points for using pictures other than something else.  Think creatively!

We are using a chain in our K'Nex prototype.  Does the chain count as 1 piece or do we need to count each link of the chain?

• A chain may be counted as 1 piece per full chain.  So, if a team is using 3 different chains in their prototype, they would count for 3 different chains.

In the middle school challenge, teams are required to complete a budget and inventory of the pieces used.  What do we do if a piece we want to use is not listed on the K'Nex Inventory?

• The team would need to add a drawing of the piece to their inventory sheet and create a price for that piece.  The price should be a fair value based on the other pieces listed in the inventory.
