Meet the Teachers!

Jason Principato

Hi, my name is Jason Principato. This is my 10th year of teaching, both in the classroom and Physical Education. I love soccer and have been playing since I was 5 years old. I believe that Physical Education should be a space where students are engaged as well as learning about the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

Ciro Barilla

Hi, my name is Ciro Barilla and this is my first year teaching Physical Education here at ACPS. I have been coaching basketball for the last 12 years. I believe Physical Education should be enjoyable and create positive memories for all students.

Prep:

Term 1: This term students will focus on locomotor movements such as running, jumping, hopping, skipping, and leaping. Together we will learn different ways we can move our bodies and the importance regular movement has on our bodies. Students will participate in both individual and group activities to develop their fundamental motor skills.

Term 2: This term we have continued with performing locomotor skills, focusing on moving from, one point to another as well as different directions. We have an emphasis this term on participating in games that require us to be aware of the space around us.

Year 1 & 2:

Term 1: Students have been fortunate enough to have tennis lessons run by specialist coaches at Hume Tennis. This is a 4-week program where students will learn how to perform a forehand, backhand, rallying and game play. Students enjoy the interactive nature of getting hands-on with racket-ball co-ordination and develop their body movement agility.

Term 2: This term we are working on using strategies to work in group situations during physical activities. We have been faced with fun and challenging activities that require us to communicate and work well together.

Year 3 & 4:

Term 1: The beginning of Term 1 will see students engage in interactive body movement activities, learning sportsmanship values and group teamwork. Students will then be introduced to basketball, where they will be shown the fundamental skills of the sport such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. Each week we will progress into a new skill which will prepare students to be able to play structured games during class.

Term 2: We had the chance to compete against other schools in Cross Country this term. Grades 4-6 had a selection of students compete in either the 2000m or 3000m race. Aitken Creek was represented well with mutiple students finishing in the top 10.

Year 5 & 6:

Term 1: This term our year 6 students have the opportunity to participate in inter-school sports. They will compete against other local schools on a Friday in the following sports: Basketball, Volleyball, Cricket, and Tee Ball. Our year 5 students will be working on their basketball skills where we will build on their prior knowledge by utilising individual and group activities.
