Theme
“From Reflection to Reform: Innovative Solutions for Age-Old Problems” is especially relevant in a day and age where nearly every conflict is the result of long-standing historical tension. Recurring economic, political, and social issues plague human history, resulting in never-ending human suffering and geopolitical instability. It is time to resolve these issues with creativity and innovation.
This theme calls upon delegates to reassess age-old problems and respond with innovative and effective solutions to create sustainable peace. It demands a new way of thinking that prioritizes revolution. By tackling these issues anew, we can stop history from repeating itself once and for all.
History
For over 24 years, Johannesburg Model United Nations, hosted at the American International School of Johannesburg, has established itself as a platform for young leaders to engage with prevalent global issues through diplomacy, debate, and collaboration. Established in 2002 by a social studies teacher, Jack Wyss-Lockner, JoMUN’s legacy continues as a leading conference among schools in Africa. Starting from a little more than 100 participants, JoMUN now consistently hosts 400+ delegates every year, even powering through the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the persistent dedication of the directors, staff, and each new executive team, JoMUN remains a testament to the power of student-led advocacy and fostering the next generation of global citizens.
