The SKA is an international project to build the world’s largest radio telescope, with a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area. The SKA telescope will be co-located in Africa and in Australia. It will have an unprecedented scope in observations, exceeding the image resolution quality of the Hubble Space Telescope by a factor of 50 times, whilst also having the ability to image huge areas of sky in parallel. Currently, the South African MeerKAT radio telescope is being built some 90 km outside the small Northern Cape town of Carnarvon. It is a precursor to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope and will be integrated into the mid-frequency component of SKA Phase 1.

Bright Future Youth IT Centre and Aftercare Community identified lack of skills and access to information about opportunities as a major problem to the youth in low-income communities. This came out of our work with youth in these Communities. We then provided information services through SMS to the youth about jobs, study, business, and other useful information. We signed up to 500 youth on this information sharing database called Train the trainer program. The Youth Centre provides free internet access to youth who sign up. We would be exhibiting coding to the learner and broad community as well as having pamphlets to speak to work we do. www.brightfutureyouthitcentre.org.za
