Dear Parents, Carers, and Students
As we approach the final weeks of the spring term, there remains a quiet sense of reflection across the school. While those affected by our recent loss remain at the forefront of our thoughts, I have been deeply moved by the way our community has remained closely knit, supporting one another with such genuine kindness. It is in this spirit of looking after one another that our students have also managed to achieve so much this week.
I have been particularly uplifted by the vibrancy of the latest projects in our Art and Textiles departments; they are currently showcasing some truly exceptional work that highlights the incredible talent we have here. That same wonderful energy was mirrored on the courts this week by our netball teams, who played with such skill and determination. A huge well done to all the players for their teamwork and energy.
I also highly recommend taking a moment to look through the fantastic February edition of our student-led High Society magazine. It is a brilliant showcase of our students' voices and hard work, and I am already very much looking forward to seeing what they produce for the next edition.

Year 7 Netball vs Aylesbury Vale Academy

A hard-fought game by the Year 7 squad with great energy shown across all quarters. Well done to the entire team for their persistence!

This week
Netball
It has been a busy week for the PE department as some of our Netball squads competed in their End of Season Tournaments.
U16 Team: The week kicked off on Monday with our U16s, who put in a fantastic effort against some very tough opposition. Their sportsmanship and tenacity were a credit to the school.
U15 Teams: The U15 A team secured a brilliant 3rd place finish, while the U15 B team fought hard to claim 7th place overall out of 11 teams.
U14B Team: The U14Bs were an absolute inspiration this week. Despite losing a player to an injury in the opening minutes, the squad played with only 6 players for the entire tournament. Their incredible resilience saw them finish Joint 2nd in their pool—a truly gutsy performance!

Year 9 Textiles mixed media pieces from the Autumn Term and Spring term groups are proudly on display at the Queens Park Arts Centre in Aylesbury. Students have worked incredibly hard on these pieces and been able to showcase a range of practical decorative techniques on their work creatively. The exhibition is up from 21st March till 16th April in the coffee bar. It is free to pop into and have a look at all the beautiful and skillful work. A big well done to the Year 9 students for all their hard work.

Over the past year, a number of AHS students from Years 8-10 have helped to trial a new app called Snoozify, which explores the relationship between sleep and learning. This week, researchers at the Royal Holloway, University of London, have been in touch with the findings. They found that students using the full version of the app turned devices off 15 minutes earlier by the end of the study, fell asleep sooner, and slept better. They also found that Snoozify seemed to protect students from the usual decline in mood that occurs across the term. Funding permitting, they hope to develop the app further before general release.

As the days get longer and the world begins to bloom, Spring offers us all a natural opportunity to hit the 'reset' button. After the long winter months, focusing on our mental health and wellbeing can help us - and our students - feel more energised and balanced.
Simple ways to embrace the season:
-Move into the light: Increasing our exposure to natural daylight is one of the simplest ways to boost our mood and regulate sleep patterns. Even a 10 minute walk can make a big difference.
-The Power of Nature: Encourage your child to notice the small changes outside - the buds, the birds, or the changing colours. This 'grounding' technique helps reduce stress and brings us into the present moment.
-A 'Digital Spring Clean': Use the season to encourage some time away from screens. Swapping an hour of devices for a family walk or a creative hobby can help clear 'mental clutter'.
-Be Kind to Yourself: Growth takes time. Remind your child (and yourself!) that it's ok to start small. Prioritising rest and self-care is just as important as staying busy.
Let's use this season of growth to look after ourselves and support one another.

Our Parent Governor election remains open. If you haven’t yet had a chance to participate, you can cast your vote online here. Alternatively, paper ballot forms are available to collect from the school office upon request. As a reminder, each parent or carer within a family is entitled to one vote.
While we have shared reminders about this previously, we have had further reports that a large number of our students are still waiting outside the Probation Service building, at the Wynne Jones Centre beside the Tesco roundabout, to to be collected. We would like to reiterate that it is not a recommended area for students to wait, and the Probation Service and AHS are concerned about the potential situations the students may be putting themselves in by waiting there. There is a constant stream of people on probation and releases from prisons attending the Centre at all times of every day.
We will be speaking with our students in upcoming assemblies to refresh their minds on where they should be waiting. We would be very grateful if you could coordinate an alternative meeting point with your daughter that is away from the building and better ensures their safety.
With thanks, as ever, for your support.
