As we draw close to the end of term, I would like to thank all the staff and students for their hard work, and our parents and carers for their support.
Our Christmas celebrations started last week with our Santa Dash. Thank you to Mrs White for organising the event and to all who took part. Congratulations to Mia in 9s for winning the best dressed Gingerbread! (Pictured below)
On Tuesday, we welcomed our Year 13 parents and students into School for an in-person Parents' Consultation Evening. It was a busy evening and we are currently gathering feedback form those parents who attended, to see how we can improve on these evenings moving forward.
On Wednesday evening, I attended the annual Carol Service, which was an absolute joy! Huge thanks to Mr Warner for his hard work and to all our staff and students who helped and took part. Thank you also to Reverend Zimmerman.
On Thursday, we held our annual Senior Community Coffee Morning. Thank you to Mrs Knox, Mrs White and all the other members of staff and students who made this such a wonderful event.
On Thursday, we also held our Christmas Jumper Day, which is one of the highlights of our Christmas celebrations. Thank you to all who took part and raised money for Save The Children.
Today, we held our A Factor talent competition, congratulations to all the students who entered this. On Monday we have our Staff Panto and on Tuesday, we finish with our Staff Karaoke. Thank you to all who are taking part and good luck!
On Tuesday afternoon, we will be delighted to welcome back last summer's Year 13 leavers for our Year 14 tea. We are excited to see them again.
We will also be saying goodbye to two members of staff. Ms Trunkfield has been one of our Science Technicians for the past twelve years and Mrs Osgerby has been the Head's PA for the past twenty years. We thank them for their hard work and wish them both a long and happy retirement. They will be much missed.
Finally, just a reminder that we finish at 1.00 pm next Wednesday 17 December and students are due back in school at 8.40 am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.
On Friday 5 December, students took part in our annual Santa Dash. Due to heavy rain the event was moved to the Sports Hall. Students had to complete 3 laps of the Sports Hall. They attended with lots of enthusiasm and festive cheer and raised an amazing £477 for Florence Nightingale Hospice. We were delighted to welcome Florrie Bear to the event too. Thank you to everyone who took part.

The U14 Hockey team played against Wycombe High School this week, losing 2-0. They played really well despite having so few players this week. Well done to all who played.
Yesterday, we welcomed over 80 guests to our annual Senior Community Christmas Coffee Morning. It was a wonderful morning filled with so much joy and festive cheer. Our guests were entertained by our wonderful choir and an impressive magician from Year 10. Students from Year 8 also performed a beautiful dance before things became competitive with our festive bingo. Thank you to all who attended and supported the event. It truly was magical.

This year a Science Fair, organised by Jannat and Vyshali in Year 12, took place to showcase the impressive work from students across Key Stages 3 and 4, highlighting their creativity, curiosity, and dedication.
Highlights included the KS4 wind tunnel model by Year 10s Alisha and Millie, which achieved 1st place for its clear demonstration of aerodynamics. In KS3, the highly detailed immune system poster by Roshini in Year 7 earned 1st place, followed by a renewable energy model by Hooriya and Kabisha in 2nd place and a solar system model by Aarya in 3rd place. Other entries that stood out included, a creative video on echolocation, an insightful comparison of household pets and wild animals and an investigation comparing energy drinks containing sugar and those without.
The fair created an atmosphere of excitement and curiosity, with pupils eager to share their achievements. The event reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to encouraging scientific exploration and celebrating student talent. It links to AHS values: curious engagement and boundless aspiration.
Thank you to Ms Sowah for providing invaluable guidance throughout the preparation process, helping the Year 12 students refine and develop their ideas and thanks to the Science Ambassadors for judging. Certificates were kindly presented by Mrs Forster. There was even a surprise guest appearance by David Attenborough!

Back in July, we bid for funding from Brita for the Textiles Department. We were so lucky to be awarded money. With this we were able to buy a whole class set of resources for Gelli Printing. This included the specialist paints and the printing plates and experimental rice paper and tissue paper.
9Z Textiles group were able to have a go at Gelli printing in their lesson this week. They had great fun using the theme of the natural world to create leaf prints. The results were amazing and they created some really beautiful prints that they can develop and use at a later date.
We are so grateful for the resources that we have been able to buy with this money and how this money will enhance the students' skills in textiles.

Huge congratulations to Amanda who is in the elite squad in her gymnastics club. She recently attended The International Continental Cup in Portugal and had an amazing time.
The competition involved competitors from 13 countries with 27 girls in Amanda's category. Amanda finished in the top 10, which is a fantastic achievement. We are very proud of you Amanda!

When we return to school after the Christmas break, our Year 11 students will be straight into mocks. To support a quiet working environment for them, as far as possible, the School will move to a 2:1:2 day during this period (Tuesday 6 - Mon 19 January inclusive) which means lunchtime and P4 will swap. Lunchtime will be from 12:30-13:30 and P4 will be from 13:30-14:30 on these days. Notices will go to students about this in the final week of term with a further reminder on the first day back.
Teacher of Geography (Maternity Cover) - Closing date: 5 January 2025
