Dear Parents and Carers
I hope this letter finds you well.
We hosted two days of 11+ testing this week, for students external to Buckinghamshire. This is part of our obligation to Buckinghamshire County Council; thank you to all those who made these significant days run so smoothly.
We welcome all prospective AHS students and their families to Aylesbury High School for our Open Events during the year. For any prospective parents and students who would like to visit, we are unfortunately already full next Wednesday evening. We therefore warmly invite you to one of our other Open Mornings throughout the year. We are currently taking bookings for our Open Morning on Thursday 25 September at 9.00 am. Please click on this link for further information and to make a booking; please scroll down the page to Open Events.
For those lovely AHS students who have so generously offered to help, please kindly check your uniform so that you are super smart and represent the School, as the stars that you clearly are. Thank you.
We are delighted that our AHS Values are being integrated and celebrated by our community and it was wonderful to see so many students being given certificates in the Summer Values Awards ceremony. As we start the academic year with new parents, carers and students, the Cabinet will be presenting our values in our assemblies and we now introduce them to you.
Creda - Why do we have values?
Our values provide us with a shared foundation to allow us to work towards the school’s vision of ‘developing uniquely talented young adults, who are independent, strong and confident’. These values are not just values to follow at school to help us build a better community but also qualities that shape us into individuals that can make a positive impact beyond the classroom.
Elodie - Boundless Aspiration
Boundless aspiration is about embracing the difficult things and taking everything as a learning opportunity. For example, taking on a leadership role in school whilst being a transfer student was a nerve wracking step to take, however it has resulted in me becoming much more confident and independent, both of which are essential qualities for later life.
Hannah - Selfless Generosity
Selfless generosity is about caring for others without a need for personal gain. For example, it can be giving up your time to help a friend with homework, or volunteering to help in one of your lessons.
Vlada - Selfless Generosity
Selfless generosity means giving to others without expecting anything in return, one example of this is when I helped with the school movie night as a volunteer to organise, sell tickets and snacks, this helped smoothen the process and the teachers were very grateful.
Akshia - Resilient Bravery
Resilient bravery is about persevering in the face of hardship, whether that’s in the classroom or out. Meeting new people and stepping out of your comfort zone to talk to them can be an example, or even having another go at a tricky question. Believing in yourself is the first step.
Safiyyah - Resilient Bravery
Resilient bravery is the ability to face any fears or uncertainties with confidence. For example, it can be speaking in front of big groups of people when presenting an assembly or coming to a new school for the first time! Getting through these challenges the first time makes it easier for you the next time, further building your confidence!
Molly - Curious Engagement
Curious engagement is taking the time to explore your interests further and discover what you really enjoy. I attended a day of lab work making antibiotics, which was a great experience to learn more about different experiments and their outcomes outside of school and was also really fun.
Jemima - Curious Engagement
Curious engagement is about going beyond what you learn in class. For example, I am currently reading ‘Quantum: a guide for the perplexed’ by Jim Al-Khalili to learn more about Quantum Physics, and I’m really enjoying it!
At the beginning of this academic year, we are taking the opportunity to re-share our Vision, Mission and Values with you. I want to reiterate my commitment to making AHS a place where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their best and to thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. I look forward to working with you to make 2025/26 a productive and joyful year for all in our community.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of our staff if you have any questions or concerns. I can be contacted via my PA, Mrs Hilary Osgerby, at secretary@ahs.bucks.sch.uk.
We had our first hockey fixture of the season an inaugural U18 mixed match vs GMS, absolutely brilliant, so much fun had by all but sadly we lost 4-1.
On Wednesday we were also at Pipers Corner for the first biathlon of the year. Our brilliant biathletes smashed the swim and worked so hard in the tough run. Sophia came through the line in 18 minutes with the rest of the team not far behind!
Dear Parents/Carers
We are writing to inform you about an update to our consultation evenings for the upcoming academic year. We are pleased to announce the reintroduction of in-person parents' evenings for specific year groups; Year 8, Year 11 and Year 13.
This decision has been largely driven by the valuable feedback we received in our latest school survey, which indicated a strong desire from many parents to meet in person once again. We believe that fostering stronger relationships within our School community is vital, and these in-person evenings are one way we can achieve this. We are also mindful of the convenience that online meetings offer, and our aim is to strike a balance that provides the best experience for everyone.
To ensure these in-person opportunities are spread across your daughter’s school career, the following consultation evenings will be held in person at School:
Year 8: Thursday, 2nd July, from 4 - 6:30pm
Year 11: Thursday, 26th February, from 4 - 7pm
Year 13: Tuesday, 9th December, from 4 - 6:30pm
All other parent consultation evenings, and the additional evenings for Year 11 and Year 13 (Year 11 and 13 have two consultation evenings/year), will continue to be held online, starting at 5pm.
We believe these in-person evenings will provide a valuable opportunity for face-to-face discussions about your daughter’s progress and well-being. You will still be able to use our online booking system to schedule your appointments, and further details regarding specific dates, times, and the booking process will be shared with you nearer the time. For information, please see the dates below of the online Parents' Consultation Evenings during the forthcoming academic year.

Further to our successful Parents' Afternoons last year, we would like to offer another to all parents and carers on Thursday 9 October. This afternoon, as before, will be staffed by the Senior Leadership Team, the Heads of Year and the SEND and Wellbeing Teams. Appointments will start at 3.30 pm and will be preceded by a talk given by Mrs Queralt, Deputy Head (Pastoral) & Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on 'Monitoring Devices at Home'.
All parents and carers are welcome, the doors of AHS are truly open. We ask that you let us know if you are planning to attend the Afternoon and/or the talks, by filling in this Google Form. We very much hope that you will join us and we look forward to meeting you. Unfortunately, you will be unable to park on site, unless you require disabled parking. If you park on the roads around the School, please do so with consideration for our neighbours, thank you.
Do you want to help your child figure out what they want to do next, but just don’t have enough information about all the options out there? Sign up to this webinar to demystify all things university, apprenticeships, and gap years with the experts. You’ll have opportunities to get all your questions answered so you can better understand your child’s best next steps after school.
Sign up here to register - you don’t need to have a Unifrog account to do so.
If you have any unwanted uniform in good condition, we would be delighted if you could donate it to the School. We sell pre-loved uniform as part of our commitment to sustainability, to raise a little money for the School and also to assist those who may find purchasing new uniform rather expensive. If you could please ask your daughters to hand it in at reception, we would be truly grateful, thank you.
Wishing all well for a lovely weekend and thank you, as ever, for your support.
