Alamo Heights Junior School
I’m so happy to have you in 7th grade science this school year! In this class, we explore a variety of topics including Matter & Energy, Forces, Organisms & Environments and Earth & Space using scientific and engineering design practices. Science classes regularly require independent learning outside of class to finish classwork, projects or study for assessments. I will provide online resources that you can use to study.
What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In this course, students are still expected to learn all of the 8th grade science TEKS and take the 8th grade science STAAR test at the end of the school year like all 8th grade science students in Texas. However in STEM, there is an added emphasis on STEM project based-learning with a research, design, fabrication, and presentation process. Collaborative contributions and individual accountability are both equally valued. Students will have access to a workshop where they will be trained on specific power tools and have the opportunity to include wood working and 3D printing in their projects.
*Students and their parents/guardians are required to sign a STEM and Laboratory Safety contract.
