History of AHISD Wellness

• The AHISD Wellness Counselor position began in 1997.  A full-time Wellness Counselor is at the Junior School and High School with the purpose of supporting students' social and emotional needs.

• The AHISD Wellness Coordinator position, on the other hand, is completely unique to our district. It was established in 2008 through the convergence of a grassroots movement spearheaded by a few passionate and determined district parents and our district's strategic plan. These parents worked to raise enough money to fund the position for one year. With the help of the Alamo Heights School Foundation, enough money has been raised to make this an endowed position that now exists in perpetuity.  The Wellness Coordinator position focuses on helping students who are struggling with common societal pressures, but with a focus on substance abuse.
