AVID Program

Welcome to Verrado's AVID Program!

Advancement Via Individual Determination is an international College Preparation program.

Through this credit bearing class, students learn the skills and success strategies to be successful in honors or AP classes, whether they have been in honors classes since middle school or have never taken an honors class before. This sets them up to be competitive for scholarships and admissions into the colleges of their choice. This can include 4 year universities, trade schools, certification programs, and everything in between.

AVID 9 and 10 focuses on organization, time management, self-advocacy, goal-setting, and the necessary soft skills that students need to be successful in high school and beyond. Students also begin initial college and career exploration and planning. Students also attend two college field trips a year as well as a workplace trip.

AVID 11 and 12 focuses on college admissions, career planning, and financial aid. Students will continue to refine skills developed in AVID 9 and 10 while beginning to prep for college admission tests, scholarship research and application, college admission essay writing and more. They will work closely with the College and Career Specialist and the AVID School Counselor in class. There are also 2 college visit trips and a workplace trip each year.

Throughout the entirety of the program (AVID 9-12) there is a focus on collaboration, team building and weekly in class tutorial support that allows students to self identify content that they have questions about in their other academic classes.
