Our Mission
The mission of the program is to recognize, honor, and promote citizenship throughout the communities of Ashland, Greenwood, and Memphis.
Being a hero can be as simple as helping those around you in such a way that it inspires them to keep moving forward in their day: a kind word or gesture at the right time, might be all it takes. Being a hero can also be volunteering to help or lead community activities. It can be as big as organizing a fundraiser or creating an organization to help hundreds of people.
The point is that every single one of us can be a hero. There are numerous opportunities, big and small, to impact others in a positive way. We want to honor those that choose to Raise the Bar for their fellow community members.
How it all began
How it all began
The Hometown Heroes Program started as a project through a small group of senior students at Ashland-Greenwood High School in 2019. Each year, a classroom comprised of seniors is charged with continuing the tradition.
How to Nominate
How to Nominate
To nominate someone that lives OR works in the Ashland, Greenwood, Memphis communities simply do the following:
Click here to fill out a google form to nominate your hero!
OR
Write a letter or email explaining why an individual is a hero
Make sure to include your name and contact info, and theirs (if you know it)
Mail it to AGHS, 1842 Furnas St. Ashland, NE 68003 in c/o Stacy Johnson OR email it to stacy.johnson@agps.org
You will receive confirmation that your nomination was recieved. If you don't, reach out again to make sure it is not missed.
How to know
How to know
The winners will be recognized at a ceremony at the high school. Each person nominated will be personally invited to attend, as well as those that nominated them. The community is also invited to attend to help celebrate and lift up the individuals that have made a positive impact.
