The European Federation for Intercultural Learning is the umbrella of AFS organisations in Europe. Established in 1971, it cooperates with the European Union for the establishment of mobility programmes since the 80s and it has become the leading non-profit individual pupil mobility organisation in Europe.
EFIL has 3 strategic pillars:
Advocacy
Advocacy is strengthened through research.
Intercultural learning and inclusive mobility are increasingly included into public policies and funds.
EFIL Member Organisations are supported and empowered to bolster their advocacy efforts at national level.
Intercultural Learning
EFIL is the most competent knowledge resource on intercultural learning in Europe.
Intra-European cooperation between organisations and education institutions towards internationalisation of schools is strengthened.
EFIL Member Organisations are empowered to diversify and improve their intercultural learning offer.
Active citizenship
The relevance of volunteerism for development of active citizenship and societal change is researched and promoted.
Cross-border volunteer collaboration towards a more inclusive, peaceful and just society is improved.
EFIL Member Organisations are supported in developing and diversifying their volunteer networks.
